New Order’s Bernard Sumner also sent his respects to the star:
"Very shocked and saddened to watch the news this morning and hear about the death of David Bowie. I always looked up at him and thought yeah - he’s the real deal, indisputably good, a figurehead for a whole host of musicians I’m sure. We’ve lost someone unique who can’t be replaced."

Saturday i listened to David's new songs, Sunday discussed them over breakfast, Monday read that he is gone. David is a giant , and though Bernard's words are kind , I hope to hear from Ian MCulloch, who nearly worshipped David. |

"I Can't Give Everything Away" now seems like the perfect send-off, complete with harmonica reference to "A New Career in a New Town". Listening to it at work yesterday I got a bit teary and had to turn it off. The whole thing does seem almost spookily well orchestrated now. Well played, David.

I caught Newsnight.Bernard mentioned Bowie's 2013 album The Next Day as being a really good album; haven't heard it in full but agree with Bernard when he mentioned "the single off it was a great song, very moving" and i assume he was talking about Where Are We Now? Quite a poignant song.
I'm glad Bowie lived to see his final album released before he died.
