This sounds good.

More in depth info on BBC website here

"Title test" on YouTube.Interesting for the fact the info states the original plan for the music used for the titles was Age Of Consent.

This sounds quite interesting. No mention of other 4ad artists in that write up though, but I imagine that might come in with The Cocteau's story. I purchased the book Facing The Other Way: The story of 4ad a while back, but I still haven't got round to reading it yet.

Wow how great was that episode tonight? Clips from the Play At Home doc, Saville ,Factory, The Smiths , Cocteau Twins, C86, JAMC and beyond into the late 80s and KLF, Acid House, The Hac, Tony Wilson and the Mondays.I was giddy from it all bringing back the memories of them heady days.Phew!

We'll draw a veil and overlook the unfortunate inclusion of PWL and Pete Waterman though eh?

Indie Classics at the BBC on now.

Restless played over the end images and end credits of the final episode of this, last night.Final episode covered the labels that were home to bands like all that mid 90s Britpop crowd Blur and Oasis (and Menswear, jeez) and then on into the noughties and the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Libertines and Arctic Monkeys.Never gave a flying fuck about any of those bands so last night's episode didn't do much for me.

Been a good series overall though.A very watchable history of many of the "Indie" bands and labels from the late 70s to today.

Yeah, I switched it off half way through, it was to be expected though that the series would peter out when it reached the mid nineties I suppose.

The indie scene lost it's way a little for me after the shoegazing era.

It's 28 years since I set foot in Manchester so it was quite interesting seeing the Gmex and rebuilt Hacienda in one screen view which I have tried to locate on Google street view without success, and seeing inside Factory HQ (the place with the infamous hanging table) Thought it wouldve been converted or demolished by now? Apparently not. Or has it been reconstructed as a museum? Even had a view of the loo, paintwork was easyjet orange, Mike Pickering I think talking about the bad timing of buying the Hac premises.

Restless lyrics at the end on subtitles werent quite the same as what I imagined them to be.

The Factory offices are now a club called....The Factory. It became The Paradise Factory in the early nineties, was left dormant for a while, then Peter Hook turned it into Fac251. Synonymous with the Factory name of the Hulme club on Royce Road.

The Haçienda is now....The Haçienda apartment block. They had an anniversary do in 2012 in the underground car park to mark the 30 years.

Most current Haçienda nights are now currently held in The Albert Hall...

In Manchester that is.

Yeah when i watched it Friday night the end images with the soundtrack of Restless kind of had the message that if you take risks you can change things which chimed with what i always thought the line in Restless is; "It's not hopeless/If you take risks" but having seen your post i looked up that bit of the programme again and turned subtitles on and it was "It's not hopeless/if you take rest" So i guess that must be the lyric then but i just don't get it.Things aren't hopeless if you take a rest?Confused "take risks" makes far more sense to me.

Yeah, not too sure, thought it might be “less” again, not too sure about the line about current studies either, re the fiscal climate, but can’t think what else it could be. Which shows the line “Ain’t got no interest“ in a different light and - no, only kidding!

The 'indie' scene from the mid-90s onwards became the mainstream. The real independents still exist though, and always will.

I didn't read that much into it. I suspect they played Restless because it's a current track from an important "indie" group.

Certain the line is " It's not hopeless if you take less." As in don't be so fucking greedy.

watched the first part of the documentary.

it was very well presented. enjoyed seeing all the interviews with the bands (except that dude from throbbing gristle)...

very informative, and was cool knowing a lot of the bands i liked started out then, the indie charts were pretty amazing back in the 80's...

looking forward to the rest of it.
