When I was a proud owner of a turntable and cassette recorder I could edit out vocals I didn't like. my remixes satisfied no one, but me. If someone could remix superheated by editing Justin fllowers out of the last verses and make Bernard bleat them I would not mind . Meanwhile superheated is relegated to a playlist of songs featuring Bernard and somebody else. Apologies to flowers fans , yes , I know he was cute in the crystal video, but new order songs should have
Minimized time for invited guests. Except Iggy of course . one more thing -- anyone know how many different ladies sing on neworder or electronic songs? and I think Gillian could have sung more backing , as she can sing as well as the numerous invited ladies

The singer Rowetta did most of the backup singing on the Electronic albums. She also did some stuff with Peter Hook & The Light and also does backup vocals on two of the new MC tracks (Plastic & Nothing but a Fool).

Don't think she's been anywhere near Electronic. You're probably thinking of Denise Johnson. Denise and Dawn Zee are the backing vocalists on Music Complete (Elly Jackson credited more as "guest vocalist" along with Iggy and Brandon). Elly is not on Plastic, that's an error in the LP credits.

Rowetta is best known for work with Happy Mondays and I don't think she'll appear on any New Order material, considering her work with The Light.

Although this is steering off topic, I agree they may as well have saved some money and utilised Gillian's singing on some of the tracks. Gillian has said in a recent interview that she's sang lead on a track which hasn't come out yet. Could this be the return of The Other Two, or will it be as New Order? Only time can tell... (did you see what I did there?)

They were appalling... When I first expectantly put the CD on I thought it was jammed and playing the same (awful) track again and again. That cost me two porn mags, you bastards.
The Factory mixes tended to be similar but extended - often they'd actually start with the 12" and edit down the 7". There was one awesome so-called 12" mix of Round and Round (not the vinyl 12") on a 3" CD - in classic NO style, this gem is now harder to find than a virgin in light entertainment, but shit like Rest Of is still available. With London the originals tended to be just a pretext for some over-paid DJ hack to indulge its ego at the song's (and fans') expense. I'd be interested to know how far (if at all) the band was actually involved in 'The Rest Of'.

Well, yeah. Most of it is just marketing. In '93 Steve himself said B-sides were usually rejects or dubs cos they couldn't be arsed to do something worthwhile, and it was a shame '1963' was just a B-side (yes I know 1995 etc). One of the reasons I stopped being a completist was because I was bored of rehashes, compilations etc.

People keep mentioning the recent Gillian sung track… but it wasn't a New Order track… it was a Koshi & Hush track.

I think New Order are REALLY missing out not using Gillian's voice more. Crazy! A wasted asset.

Right, I'm off to listen to Procession…

Also… next I listened to Doubts Even Here… a real shame that New Order ever chose to have just “one” vocalist at all. Should have made more use of both Gillian and Hooky.

Remixes: you don't have to listen to them, some are great, some okay, many pointless… some are absolute classics I would't want to do with out. So far, the Hot Chip mix is the only one from this period that I'll be listening to lots, although the RAC one is pretty good.

I was in a band where the four of us all took turns on singing lead. For this reason our album didn't stick together right. I prefer one main voice on a record. Hook did do some backing in New Order, which I think is as far as it should have gone. IMO, he murdered a good song: Dreams Never End.

If only you'd been around to tell the Beatles and Abba where they were going wrong…

Right, I'm off to listen to My Bloody Valentine, Pink Floyd, Spacemen3, Sonic Youth, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cribs, Beach Boys, Beautiful South, Depeche Mode… and lots of other bands who might have made something worth listening to if only they just had one singer…

It's just my opinion, formed through personal experience, as I made clear in the part of my post you actually quoted! The only one of the artists I like off your list is Depeche Mode. They are are a different case, as Dave Gahan is the lead singer for most of time, and Gore sings on average, a couple of tracks - so they do have a lead singer.

Gillian singing "one or two" songs, and Barney singing on all the songs, would do me fine. New Order are clearly happy for other people to sing on their recent albums… at least on this one the additional singers add rather than subtract from the overall effect! Anyway, my point stands, they should have made more of using Gillian (and in the past. Hooky) on vocals… that doesn't stop Barney being the “lead singer”, and nor should it.

It's Brandon Flowers, not Justin (timberlake)...hahah

Btw, I think one of Brandon's assets is his pair of lungs....he got a decent powered voice, IMO, it even rivals Freddie Mercury.

The Killer's 'Sam's Town' tour concerts were the best I've ever experienced. It was sooo good on first night that I forced my missus to come along for the second gig on the next night Big Grin

Though their cover of Shadowplay was pretty crap Dead

I don't know for sure but I think there might be more than one track she has done vocals for.

Back in 2012 Gillian tweeted about doing a vocal for a "ravie-ish tune" with "Alex Hush" as I think she put it at the time (I'm not inclined to scroll back that far through her tweets).
Then in November 2014 she tweeted this:

Could be two different things...

ps I realised at some point last year that Koishi & Hush had a "contact us" section on their website, so I politely asked if it was them, and if so what could they tell me about the track. I got this email reply back from MNGMT: "The guys are being cagey about this so we will have to wait and see. Wish I could have been more help and once they let me know more I will pass it on". Never heard any more.

Of course different remixes are made for different reasons. A lot of time for the dance floor in DJ sets, but other times for personal use and some personal reasons we'll never know. I love remixes. Sometimes a mix needs more song elements left in, and sometimes the vocals themselves stand apart. And sometimes its the remixer themselves. I'm a big RAC fan and know his sound, and I was very happy with his remix. I love me some Richard X so almost anything he does can go on and on and i'll be happy. NIN - Only and DM- Enjoy the Silence being a few.

As far as completionism goes - these days its not worth trying. There are so many mixes out there because the stems are leaked more, or when an artists mix does not get chosen it will often be leaked eventually. Where does the line end?

For those less likely to visit Music for Pleasure, Koishi & Hush was also mentioned in this thread...

Incidentally re: my reply #41 above, Koishi & Hush have just replied to my old email. Nice of them to remember.
Alas my hopes that there were two tracks are gone; both Gillian's 2012 & 2014 tweets referred to this track.
