One of only 95 made. Sunburst, with SKB Pro hardshell case. These very rarely come up for sale, now's your chance to own one of the very few originals.

The sunburst finish is rare, I know of only two others like it, one of which was refinished in black. The body has the usual (for Shergold) finish cracking and some nicks, dings, chips, etc from being played for almost 50 years. It's not a closet keepsake, but this is the condition it was in when I bought it 20 years ago and it's all original (finish, pickup, bridge and tuners, name scratchplate, neck) with the exception of the tone pot, switch/wiring, frets, and I think the control scratchplate (before my time). There are no structural cracks, it's solid, the wear is cosmetic.

The neck is straight and the nickel frets are in good condition; I had it refretted and haven't played it enough to wear them down.

The low-E tuning key is slightly bent, but that doesn't affect the functionality, it tunes fine.

The tone pot was dead when I got it, so it's been replaced with a 250K pot, which is a bit brighter than the 100K pot that came standard. 100K is low for a tone pot but you can get the same sound by turning the new one down to the same resistance. Or turn it up for a little more twang.

The switch on mine had also been replaced at some point with a 2-way switch which didn't do anything. The factory circuit offered three sounds on the toggle switch: parallel humbucker, single coil (split), and parallel but out-of-phase. The third option is very thin and almost no one used it, so instead of reverting to factory wiring I had it re-wired to offer series humbucker in that position. This is a much louder, thicker sound with plenty of bass and much more useable than having two out-of-phase coils right next to each other (weirdly). I still prefer the other two settings, which sound pretty similar; the single coil (normal) setting is a bit brighter/twangier but doesn't cancel noise. Series gives a third option that's more conventional (that's the normal configuration for humbuckers), but it's easy enough to revert to the factory wiring if you really want it as close to original as possible. There's a thread on the Shergold fan website where one of the other users helped me figure out the original wiring and come up with the modified version, and there's also a diagram of the original circuit we used as a reference.

Comes in an SKB Pro Rectangular Electric Bass Case (cost $250 new), will be shipped professionally packed.

Contact me for photos if you're interested, or see my listing on Reverb.com. Looking to sell for at least $2500.
