There will always be fans thinking it's not good enough. Even the best songwriters cannot create masterpieces all the time. But I think the current lineup has the potential to write something decent. Of course, for better or worse, New Order fans like us, seem so hard to please.
I know what you mean, but thats not really were I think the band is going. The side projects (minus the first Electronic and Monaco albums) never had the polish or desire for radio play. Seemed many of them were half cocked ideas, that had a good start, but never intended for public consumption. More of a "jam with friends I guess we could release."
NO had more thought in it. I think that had a lot to do with the friction between Barney and Hooky, as making both happy lead to great songs. No friction, no challenges to sophomoric ideas.... leading to songs that have a good seed of a thought, but no substantial staying power.
I just don't believe Barney and Hooky can make great music without each other... as much as they might hate each other now, they really need each other to make for any future substantial albums...
this new album, I fear, will only be a side project like BL with a NO label... kinda ruining a name... guess I like the idea of stopping while you are ahead (stop making albums, not touring).
