I want it to sound like New Order. I want a belter at the beginning and a weird one at the end, 7 tracks inbetween. I expect it to be available about 4 years from now.

For myself... I'd urge everyone to head over to Music for Pleasure and follow the link to Nova Nova & Peter Hook. The two remixes of the song (SLABB REMIX
and THIERRY CRISCIONE MIX, which is basically a different song) are exactly what I would like to hear from New Order-- add in Barney's singing and a bit of guitar here and I would be happy as can be. I don't need multiple guitarists or anything fancy... It astounds me, though, that Peter Hook and some random outfit can out-New Order New Order in terms of sound.

What I'm hoping for more of:

Big f**k-off thumping sequencers. (Everything's Gone Grey?)

What I'm hoping for less off:

Dull strumalong guitar tracks.

Something abstract and different hopefully, it largely depends on the mood of the band if they produce it themselves. Id like to see what would happen in the studio if they got a unknown producer outside of the mainstream pool of producers and maybe something new and distinctive might come from it.

I'm with Sage on this one, I can't stand recent Barney lyrics or vocal style. Dead Republic style vocals would be welcome (oops that's 20 years ago now). Better still they could go nuts and have no vocals and do something totally avant garde. Furthermore, if they can make an album as different as Republic is from Technique (I like both, btw) then they'll have done exceedingly well. Smile

well I knew he had left but I heard rumors that it was just a temporary leave.

I just don't understand how two people can be close friends and work closely together for so many years and then turn around and become enemies. :(

I think enough info has come out over the past 6 years through various interviews and even Hooky's own Joy Division book to show they've not exactly been "close" friends for a long time. I would say realistically they've not been close friends (as they were in Salford at school) since the early to mid-80s.

This image that they were best buddies hanging out all the time up until 2006 is pure romanticism/fiction on behalf of some fans. It highly likely that didn't happen, New Order were not like The Beatles in "Help!".

There may have been some reconciliation around the end of the first hiatus in 1998 but even then I don't imagine they were swapping DVD boxsets and arranging BBQs together.

It's not just New Order; many bandmates (even those who are good friends) don't spend so much time with each other outside of work. They were not close friends until 2006---they were just co-workers. Co-workers are not always the same as 'friends'.

Don't have them softly in the background like the last couple albums, I want to hear them loud and clear.

If they aped Peter Hook style basslines on any new material they would invite all sorts of commentary that they can't move on without him and it would hang like an albatross around their necks.

Not to mention Hooky himself would probably have a field day laying into them in interview about it; remember the "Round & Round" miming accusations?

I'm sure the band have thought about this and would be surprised if any new material features that bass sound.

He's no longer in the band, so the remaining members should have no obligation to include his 'presence', sound wise or otherwise.
I do not intend to judge the band, until I actually hear something. That's also why the NME article about the 'Do we want music from NO' thing made me irritated--- the NME should not get to decide whether NO should write new music or not.

Very fair comments in my humble opinion. I remember when Melody Maker was plugging that 1993 'Are they splitting up?' shenanigans and Gillian said, 'I don't understand how people make such a fuss about us splitting up when we were never that together in the first place. It's not like we all sat round the table drinking cuppasoup like Reeves and Mortimer's Slade in residence!' Certainly that was a low period for relations but I somehow got the feeling they were never all that 'together' - just my impression, mind.

I would first and foremost want it to sound like new order and be GOOD. But I hope it is an album that proves the haters wrong and make it sound great without Hooky's bass. I definitely would like a return to the electronics and less guitary stuff, but if the guitar stuff is great then I won't complain.

Yes, somebody else said this too. Personally I would also prefer something that is, technically, 'good' as opposed to something that is what is known as 'bad'.

If they do decide to release an album which is known as 'bad' could they please label it up as Bad Lieutenent so I and others know to give it a miss. Thankyou please.

I hope one (maybe two) brilliant track(s), a handful of enjoyable songs and, possibly, a throwaway piece, exactly as the last ones. To me it will be a positive balance. I do not count on a new "Low Life" or "Technique" since they came back in 1993. But it could be a little bit more electronic this time.

I'm actually hoping they eschew doing a full proper album and go right to a 4-5 song EP with the best 4 or 5 tunes they come up. It sounds to me from the interviews that ehy are at the very least considering this option.

As for sound, take The Other Two's propensity for swooning snyth tracks and mix that with Phil's guitar work (similar to what he has done on the live BLT) throwing in Barney's vocals and workman like bass playing and hope it all comes out alright. If they gave you another Crystal, Someone Like You and Here to Stay, I would be pleased. I would agree, let's get away from the heavy guitar tracks, but don't lose the guitar completely -- it can complement the snyths so nicely as we already know.

Well it would be nice to have some news by the end of the year.Though i doubt we'll get any.

Serious concerns about talk of an electronic feel to any new stuff. Brings up nightmares of any new stuff sounding like the godawful Guilt Is A Useless Emotion or Electronic's Raise The Pressure albumFrown . Ugh.
