Todd: Once and for all, can you tell us what “ICB” stands for?

Peter: Haha… this is an interesting one that gets talked about quite a lot. Firstly, let me just say that I love this song. It’s absolutely wonderful to be revisiting it now. The way the bass, drums and guitar all flirt around with each other on this one is great. As for what ICB stands for, I’ve seen a lot of speculation online that it stands for “Ian Curtis Buried” but as far as I’m aware this isn’t true… I think sometimes people just tend to read too much into things, what with it being a song on the first album we’d recorded since we lost Ian. But actually, I seem to remember us taking the initials ICB from the logo of a cargo company which we’d seen on the motorway, or something really trivial like that! I will have to rack my brains some more on this one but I’m sure that it was actually something as boring and trivial as that, sorry to disappoint everyone!

Them doing Republic in a "faithful" manner will be interesting.

Particularly tracks like Price Of Love, Chemical, Avalanche etc.

I do admire his ambition to play every song he's recorded. If Lowlife and Brotherhood are next, then surely next couple to be played together from his career are first Technique and then One True Passion, his Revenge opus. I mean, I'm sure he wouldn't negate his Monaco and Revenge years when revisiting his past.

This really grinds my goat, if that's a phrase. Hooky isn't using his original bass. His band doesn't have the same singer as it does on the records. And Hooky doesn't play bass on huge chunks of The Lights set because he's singing. And they probably don't use the original sequencers. People in glass houses shouldn't do interviews... or something.

Does it mean Kraftwerk stopped being Kraftwerk when they replaced/updated their original mellotron, or started using Vaio's and iPads instead of Doepfers and Akai DD1000 Digital Recorders?

I seem to remember adverts for the 2012 tour that clearly listed the names of the band members, as well.

I want to see Peter Hack and band lug all that bullshit onto the stage. Get all the original stuff, so we hear it exactly like the record is supposed to sound. Just like this: . Because you know that'll be worth it to see all that ridiculous gear on stage.

And one of the sad things about New Order, or shall we say the incarnation now, is they don't use the correct instruments and it doesn't sound the same. Maybe they wanted to change the songs, but it doesn't sound as good to me."

I don't understand why he has an issue with 'correct instruments'.... whatever that is. Realistically, it's impractical to use the same exact equipment forever. And of course the songs aren't exactly the same as the album, as many of them are arranged! That's the point. And even though the arranging is more thorough in this New Order, it's not like New Order with Hooky always played the songs as they were on the albums/singles.... when was the last time BLT, Blue Monday, TF etc were played exactly the same as the record/LP whatever?
If Hooky doesn't like the new arrangements of the songs live, then fine, but his remark doesn't make sense.

The Light shows are celebrations of the LPs. It make sense that there's more emphasis on reproducing the sounds and arrangements of the original tracks.

It's a weird thing because usually only tribute bands try to reproduce songs note perfect.................Oh hold on. Having said that The Light do provide a good night out but I would much prefer Hooky come up with some new stuff.

It takes less time to google "Who is in New Order?" than it does to buy a ticket for a show. Anyone who doesn't know Hooky left the band a few years ago must be living under a rock on the moon, it's not as if it's a huge secret that nobody knows. I feel about those emails the same as I do about people who get angry the guy in the hat in Guns N Roses isn't Slash : there's no subterfuge here, the lineup has been on a lot of posters, everyone has done a lot of interviews, if you don't know that Hooky left New Order, well, you don't get much sympathy from me - you haven't been paying any attention, you have no right to get angry.

I think the issue is, with all this social media and the fact that Hooky & The Light have already done the states and are doing so again (& book promotions), coupled with New Order (without our bass god being there) have been a few times then the music loving world let alone the fans of J.D. N.O. and all the side projects must be aware of what has gone on and that Hooky ain't playing with them anymore...

..... As for me, performing every album live is maybe an ideal for living, so carry on and hopefully when you do Low Life & Brotherhood he can dig out some of the old gig tapes and do them more as they were live rather than as the studio recording, as IMHO both so much better that way.
slow down.

This makes sense to me. The titles tended to be random and even interchangeable, and I always thought 'Ian Curtis Buried' was the kinda thing you could read OUT of it, but not the kinda thing you'd start with and then abbreviate. What's next, HFW (Hooky Fucked Whores)? It was similar to that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds / LSD thing, which they always said was a coincidence and I believed it. For a start, there was no need for the Beatles to be snide about taking drugs, everyone knew anyway, and at that point they could've been humping kangaroos and the world'd still've loved 'em, It's The BEATLES, AWESOME! Plus, if you're a writer of Lennon's calibre and wanted to think of L - S - D, you'd think up something smoother than Lucy, and she's in the Sky, oh and there are some fucking Diamonds there too! See what I did there? Clever, ain't I Paul.

Regarding ICB: I suspected the title was a reference to this 1980 arcade game. In the game, you fired ABM's (Anti Ballistic Missiles) to destroy the incoming ICBM's (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles). A feature of the song is a repeated, descending sound effect and surely at least Steve was aware of the games existence.
