A very young me and my best mate were in the audience at this: New Order's Reading Festival headline set, Sunday 29 August 1993 - the full version in high quality, including 'Dream Attack' and 'Bizarre Love Triangle' (not on the German 'Electronic Ecstasy' live CD): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esmX2xI4X6I.

I'd been wanting to see them live for years, this was the first time I got around to it. A very tight, if tense performance from them. Fond memories!

I went to this one. Not fond memories of the gig though , really . Wish I'd done Reading 89 instead if I had the choice of the two. Found it mostly a bit flat. Highlight of the gig for me was the ambient mix intro to Ruined In A Day for first song of the night! T'was a sunny day and lots of Republic tee shirts everywhere. We'd been on the piss in Weston Super Mare the night before ( god knows why we chose there ) and drove to Reading on the Sunday morning. We caught Sub Sub ( pre Doves) live on another stage after New Order. Got back home the next day to find my video recorder had malfunctioned and all I could see of the South Bank TV show airing of NewOrderStory which had been broadcast on ITV at the very time New Order were on stage at Reading was a fuzzy black and white blurFrown

Reading 98 though was a cracking night.

Thanks for this -- first time I heard it. I love the set they played --The songs from Republic sound really good to me. Any way to get a bootleg of this before a certain bassist has it taken away?

I didnt go to that gig but I did return home from the pub early to watch the aforementioned program. It was a near perfect way to end the evening; New Order on the telly, a tonne of ale inside me and chips and sweet and sour sauce to soak it up. Result.

If I could go back in time and witness a New Order concert from any year, 1993 would be my last choice.

Reading does appear to be the highlight but that tour was dire. Their hearts were clearly not in it at that point.

Very cleverly, the telly broadcast 'NO Story' the same moment. They said the clash was 'unfortunate'. This is clearly 'unfortunate' in the sense of 'fucking twotty'.

'93 I think they were just going through the motions, not least cos London viewed them as an investment. The record was tired formula and the gigs were NO-by-numbers.

Late as it befits NO but here's a scan of the interview in Melody Maker previewing the gig. Apologies for lacklustre scanning, it's readable nevertheless.
