tw#@holeMaybe it's just me, but has not New Order been doing the greatest hits thing since 1987 unless they had a new lp to pimp? Edited by user 04 March 2014 04:08:28(UTC)

In the words of Oscar Wilde, fuck this. You can't get blood from a stone. But if you're Miley Cyrus you can get jizz from a sledgehammer.

7 years. Hooky left the band 7 YEARS AGO. Fucking LET IT GO, man! It's not like he hasn't done anything but tour his back catalog, either! Jesus Christ, he's a cunt.

I was undecided about going to The Light's shows in September, but this little outburst has decided for me - fuck that. If he'd decided to keep Freebass going recording new material (although yes, there was no chance after Mani's little outburst ), or if The Light had at least tried to record something new/original, then he might have a case for the 'It's really nice to be able to do what I'm doing without having to compromise with another musician' line Whatever he thinks of the rest of New Order carrying on, at least they are three quarters of the original band, so when you see them you are getting the original vocalist, drummer and keyboard player - with The Light he's singing songs that he never sang on the original recordings in the first place and surrounded himself with people that had nothing to do with the original recordings. Yes you were the bassist in New Order but now is the time to put that all to bed, do one or two NO songs in a show by all means but to do two whole albums of New Order stuff in one show (and then do the same with another two albums a few months down the line, again and again) and then talk about compromise is just too much.

Quote:When asked about his latter days touring the greatest hits with New Order, Hooky added: "At the time, I should have put my foot down. So after all that gobbing off he has to back peddle when he's reminded of an inconvienient truth. Just proves its all bollocks, he was as happy as the rest of them doing The Usual at each gig back then its just now he needs something to kick off about. Not cool. This one's just a warning shot across the bows. Wait till both Barney and Hooky have got new books out. It's gonna be a mud-slinging fest just to generate more publicity in the press. Edited by user 05 March 2014 05:36:07(UTC)

so what are established bands supposed to play when they play? DDylan covers? Besides, 586 and elegia, two staples of the set list in recent years, aren't 'hits'

So what we have here is Hooky announcing a new tour and slagging off his old band mate at the same time thus ensuring extra publicity for his upcoming dates, that's a risky way to go about business though because he is in danger of alienating the very people who are the target audience for those gigs.

From the videos it looks like the gigs have good turnouts. However, they are smaller, club-type venues. Either way, I think you're right that its a PR move. Stupid. |

Yes, that's a first innit. No one holds / plays a bass like Hooky, the Light always give a barnstorming gig, and Hooky we love you. You just make it fucking difficult to at times. As I say to mtself after jizzing, let go of it now. 7 years is twice how long JD were together and just as long as NO's heyday ('82 - '89 IMHO) so it must be long enough to put this one to bed. After all, I've gotten over the fact Melanie C is probably not going to marry me.

If this is how he genuinely feels, there are more dignified ways than sticking it in the papers.
Certainly, it is wonderfully quotable, but Hooky's public persona is like a spurned lover who after dumping the girl he loves is shouting at everyone DON'T FUCKING TOUCH HER, SHE'S MINE! expecting her to roll over into spinsterdom.
He. Left. The. Band. SEVEN FUCKING YEARS AGO.
If the other members of the band want to carry on without him, it's up to them, not him.
A smarter move would have been to simply stonewall any proposed band activity by refusing to co-operate, thus forcing the rest of the band to realise they either needed to fix whatever was wrong, or get a new bassplayer. By leaving, he made it really easy for them to get another bassplayer.
Even Roger Waters at his most obstinate, never forgot the fact that when he left Pink Floyd, he wasn't the only person in the band. Roger told the rest of the band when he left "You'll never fucking do it without me!", which just inspired the rest of them to show him how wrong he was. Besides which, lawyers ain't cheap, and bands have to tour to fund lawyers. And, listening to "Republic", New Order can make a good record without much bass on it.
Ugly. But really, looking at it from the outside, Hooky left the group, so he relinquished claim on the band. Barney didn't steal New Order. Because Hooky wasn't in the band any more.
I do wish both of them success in what they do, but please, for the love of Rob Gretton, stop the mudslinging.

He did not say that, the press wrote that.
Both bands need marketing and call the public attetion to their gigs. We all know the have tours close to their beginning. |

I was thinking in something curious now... Hooky accuses Sumner and the others of playing only the same set again and again every night and that they are lazy and uncreative... In a interview in Brazil, Hooky have said New Order have played 26 songs a year while he and The Light have performed 26 songs in one night. BUT, in Live in Glasgow DVD, he also said, eight years ago: "I had a bit of a set-to with them [The Vikings] recently because they were moaning about us playing about the same set all the time, and we're going, 'Hang on', you know, 'you're not supposed to follow us around and moan about us playing the same set'".
First, there was Hooky justifying what nowadays he's criticizing. And, yes, they do the same set, but we go too much to the gigs, right? |
