With the US tour taking place during the World Cup, is there any chance they will dust off World In Motion? I don't know how tuned into soccer US fans are to where they would really dig hearing it for that reason. I certainly would. Cheers.

I would love it if they did, it came out on my 18th Birthday and I never get bored of hearing it.
When did they last play it live? I could have sworn I've heard it live in the last few years, but having checked some set lists I must have imagined it!

I rate the 1982 England song. What a classic. You'd be surprised how great it is for a singalong in the pub when you've had a few and are past caring after watching England struggle to a 0-0 draw with Algeria. It's time this song was reappraised.Great lyrics too "We're on our way, we are Ron's 22.Hear the roar of the red, white and blue. This time, more than any other time, this time, we 're gonna find a way, find a way to get away this time, getting it all together ,we'll get it right!"

Though the "b side" to World In Motion is always worth a mention.Very underrated and overlooked track.Dead funky kind of squelchy bass sequencer thing going on throughout. The track could almost be a demo but all the better for that, it gives it a kind of loose freeform style. The closing outro instrumentation touches many parts of the soul in a way many of NO's best tunes do.I always give the 12" vinyl of it a spin around tournament time

On a World Cup related note BBC2 are showing all of the Official FIFA World Cup Films. These documentary style films of each world cup are superb.I've seen a few in the past and they are a quality watch. They're narrated by a variety of different people ranging from Joss Ackland ( 1974 tournament), Sean Connery (1982), Michael Caine (1986) and Sean Bean (1998) amongst others.I'm eager to see the film for Argentina 1978 as it's one i've not yet seen. They're on Saturday and Sunday mornings around 9am on BBC2 starting from last week and carrying on throughout the tournament. Curiously, at the end of the TV broadcast of the gig in the brazilian edition of Lollopalooza this year, Bernard sang an excerpt of "World in Motion" in the backstage for the girl who did an interview and asked him some bullshit about the World Cup. Edited by user 01 June 2014 15:17:10(UTC)

It did occur to me last night that that might be what I was thinking of. New Order would do well to top that. Would be good if they got Leggey up with them!

bernard wrote two great football songs. 'such a good thing ' captures the youthful excitement of anticipation of the game better than any other song . but of course bernard has been one of the best songwriters of the 20th and 21st centuries. and there is more on the way . |

Crappy song, crappier live. Did you know that if you count the number of times Gillian brushes her hair from her forehead in the video, you need a fucking hobby.

Dug out Such A Good Thing for first time in years. It's ok actually.A b side quality admittedly but it has its moments.Featured on the CD single for World In Motion's re release for the 2002 World Cup and was the theme music for BBC Radio Five Live's coverage of that tournament. Brings back memories of, as Bernard sings in the song, getting up at sunrise just to watch the game.Big breakfast before England took on Brazil in the quarter final that year. Then Ronaldhino fooled Seaman with a lob and it was all over.Again.

I really like "Such a Good Thing". It was the best b-side since "Don't Do It" and made the 2002 "World in Motion" reissue worthwhile. Was never thrilled with WiM, to be honest, coming as it did after the triumphant Technique. Wouldn't give Bernard too much blame/credit though. Keith Allen was primarily responsible for the lyrics and Gillian the tune.

They don't get enough credit for that song. Coming up with a chart topper/anthem on the back of Technique was quite impressive.
