What does "old-fashioned New Order" mean to you?
I expect 1) A mixture of electronic and conventional instrumentation. 2) Lyrics that run the gamut from haunting to banal 3) Hooks.
Without Hooky, I don't necessarily expect another Age of Consent, Sunrise, WFtSC or even a Such a Good Thing (whatever you think of that track, that's some classic Hooky). In other words, tracks driven by the bass hook. What needs to happen is something to fill that void. Vocal hooks, guitar hooks, keyboard hooks and drum hooks. There's been some masterful drum breaks in New Order's catalogue: Blue Monday, Confusion, Sub-Culture, Shellshock, Bizarre Love Triangle, Mr. Disco, Here to Stay, etc. Even Run, which builds back up beautifully, could be included. Give us more.

If you're wondering about the odd looking post above, it seems that Phil has deleted his tweet now. He was replying to a question about UK gigs following the album. He said: End of the year.

When i saw it on here last night when you posted the twitter thing i did think hmm... not sure if the others will be ok about you breaking that news, Phil  And how long do final mixes take? How long is a piece of string i suppose. Edited by user 07 May 2015 05:27:15(UTC)

I know I said I wasn't going to be cynical but this seemed a little too quick. Did it actually happen? Regrettably the playback was cancelled at the last minute due to band or label wanting to finish final mix first. In case anyone thinks I am making this up, I can assure you my contact/friend is legit... I've known him for 34 years. With that said, I'll keep my mouth shut until I hear something concrete. In my personal opinion as a fan, with Mute in initial talks with Warners about marketing and the band tweeting mixing desk photos, I think an album on the shelves this year will be very likely. The ultimate question being whether or not we'll end up wanting to hear it. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised. -Mike

Well if it's this presentable that lends credibility to the 'by Autumn' talk. We'll see... Edited by user 16 May 2015 09:53:02(UTC)
