Hi,

Just received an email notification from HMV Japan regarding this - wonder if the faults of the original release (Blue Monday false start etc) will have been rectified?

The track listing is in Japanese: Singles (2015 Remastered Version) Eek

Maybe Run 2 will actually make an appearance.

They've done away with the bonus tracks. My original Japanese copy has Everything's Gone Green - Cicada Mix and Bizarre Love Triangle - Richard X Remix (Edit) at the end of the second disc.

...and fix the left and right channels (which were the wrong way round for many of the tracks).

And feature the actual 7 inch mix of Confusion (rather than the edited Rough Mix that was on there).

And replace Turn (which was never actually a single) with Guilt Is A Useless Emotion (which was a US single).

And feature the Minimix of Spooky (which was the official single mix) rather than the album edit (which wasn't).

And include the Arthur Baker Radio Mix of 1963 (which was the single version) rather than the edit of 1963-94 (which wasn't). And put it on there after Spooky when it was actually released as a single.

And include the actual 7 inch single remix of Bizarre Love Triangle rather than the Brotherhood album version.

And how about the original, 4:24 7 inch version of The Perfect Kiss (different to the unique, but erroneous single edit on Total) rather than the Low-life album version.

And feature the original 7 inch mix of True Faith instead of the 12 inch (to be consistent with the other 7 inch single versions on this compilation).

And feature the extremely rare, original 7 inch version of Blue Monday instead of the widely available 12 inch mix, whilst dropping the 1988 version to avoid repetition. Or ditch the 1983 Blue Monday altogether (which didn't have an official 7 inch release) in favour of the 1988 7 inch version.

...Just like I've done in my ITunes playlist.

And why include I'll Stay With You (not a single)?

And why release it now? Why not remaster and re-release it in a year to include the next batch of up upcoming singles..?

How odd.

Had forgotten just how many errors there were with this release!

^ Impressive stuff. I think.
I'm pretty sure I had a problem ripping the CD to my laptop without every track sounding massively distorted. I think that's a Warners thing, but I could be wrong.

Regarding waiting for the next batch of singles - it's new label now. I don't imagine Warners have any entitlement to stuff released on Mute.
It's a cash in job to try to get people to purchase it whilst purchasing Music Complete I suspect.

Nice. I'll be placing a pre-order.

As Mr Discography has already covered hopefully this new pressing will correct most of the omissions from the original decade-old compilation but I suspect aside from the addition of ISWY it will probably be much the same. Hope to be proven wrong though. More importantly I hope the new mastering does the music justice. The original 2005 release was loud, brick-walled and generally just headache-inducing to listen to after a while. I know a lot of fans don't give a flying fudge about that type of thing but if you're trying to enjoy the music on a decent rig the original compilation was not ideal. They got the sound much better on the fixed Collector's Edition bonus discs and Total/Lost Sirens so hopefully Giovanni Scatola or Frank Arkwright will be involved.

Turn was definitely going to be a single but was cancelled at the last minute. Hooky spoke about it in an NME interview at the time mentioning that WFTSC (Tribute Mix) would be the b-side but obviously nothing materialised beyond the ultra-rare Tribute Mix 10". The version of Turn we got on Singles was clearly a new radio edit so perhaps the compilation was finalised before it was pulled. I'll Stay With You was released on a dutch promotional CDR around the time of Lost Sirens so if it had been ten years earlier it most likely would have been a single. It certainly had 'single' or 'key track' written all over it upon first listening; New Order through and through.

Could this be the beginning of a steady roll out of quality remasters of other neglected New Order releases? We've just had Joy Division's Substance reissued, why not New Order's?

A decent Republic reissue also wouldn't go amiss.

Good points, all of them (if it was up to me, I'd have included Murder instead of BM88). Shouldn't Perfect Kiss be the Ivan Ivan edit (3:50-ish) that's on the second UK 7" (but who knows if there's a usable master tape for that..)?

It's probably too late to change anything now, as this is only 2 months away, but it looks like they've moved 1963 in the way you suggest above, which hopefully means there are other differences too! Fingers crossed..

It does beg the question why they don't ask the people who know when putting these things together (ie the fans). New Order's catalogue is full of errors.

Yeah, there were strong rumours circa 2005 that 'Turd' would be a single:
- the '7" edit at the end of 'Singles'
- artwork of a Terne (tee hee, or maybe terne hee)
- no less than three vids made
- the WFTSC megamix as a B-side...
However a punter asked DJ Hooky about it and he said, 'I have no idea.' I got the impression it gave way to the 12 x 12" shambles, which in typical NO style raised more questions than it answered. ('Retro', anyone?)

Yes, it seems they've actually done their homework this time. Still, there is the risk of things being mislabelled, but hopefully not.

Let me guess we'll get the Total 7" edit of Perfect Kiss, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

They must hate the Fluke mix of 'Spooky' as it's still not on there.. what's weird is that the Republic LP reissue track listing also has this 'radio album edit' - surely some mistake?

We'll have to listen to it first - it wouldn't be the first time stuff has been mislabelled! Tongue

Hopefully the "radio album edit" is a mistake but, again, we'll have to wait and see...

Personally I think 'Turd' would've been a good single and a great closer to that period, just a tad hard to remix - far better'n 'Jetstream', which I actually don't mind, especially in its remixed forms.

Come to think of it I am surprised that "Hellbent" isn't on there.

Given that it was on Total (a singles collection) and was issued on at least two promotional CDrs at the time.

No big deal though.
