Anyone else noticed how the few shows that saw a mid-set rotation of any two from 8 has now become Krafty every night plus either 1963 or another song? Boring bastards! They've enough material to leave out Crystal, Regret and all the ones that they seem to think everyone loves but is in fact bored with!

It works well at the festivals with a lot of people which see them the first time ever. Why should they change anything, Tim?

Well I guess the majority of fans will only see them once on the tour.
For the those of us who consider ourselves more hardcore, maybe we need to petition the band for say, a London or Manchester gig which is all album tracks, b sides and rarities.

Practice makes perfect! Watched Milan just now and thought the same thing, Tim, time to drop Elegia/Crystal and get a belter going. Paradise would be a nice change up. With Phil and Tom they could also revamp Ultraviolence and really freak people out midset.

Forget about the audience. Aren't THEY tired of opening with Crystal/Regret for +10 years?

I could live without Crystal and Regret, but as said before not everybody follows them around like we do. These two belong in a 'greatest hits' set and that's what they've been playing (with the odd surprise). And Igor, they may get tired of these too, but don't we all have to do samey things as it's expected of us?

I don't think most bands expect most of their fans to go to every gig or many gigs in the same tour, so maybe that's why bands in general (not just NO) have the same setlist. You get the same songs no matter which gig you go to, so it's fair to fans who made it to gig A but not to gig B and vice versa. I'm not saying it's bad to follow them around (if you have the time and money to do that, that's nice), but that's not what most people who go to concerts generally do. As for whether the band gets tired of these songs? I don't know.

When you're playing a festival you're playing to an audience that's not your own on the whole, hence greatest hits. There's no point rolling out an obscure fan favourite at such gigs.

Agreed about festivals, but the club gigs were even more predictable, they didn't even bother changing the set on the two Manchester nights!

I concur, but with a new bassist to settle in, and the time scale from last October to the onslaught of the world tour, maybe, just maybe time was against them to come up with an indoor set for the regulars and a greatest hits one for those going to see several bands at a festival.

slow down.

We all do, that's right. But in their case no one would seriously complain if they opened with a different song. Crystal would be a great final song in any setlist, for example. To be fair, we had the return of AOC, 1963, R&R, HTS* and Thieves Like effin Us.

In the end it looks like they are not worried with that and don't mind having a very similar setlist every night. Good for them, anyway.....

What surprises me is the under-use of the likes of Round & Round, Here to Stay and Thieves Like Us.

Surely your average punter at a festival with a passing interest in New Order would probably be more aware of these tracks, simply because they were singles, than the likes of Age of Consent or 586 or Love Vigilantes.

You can't please everyone, though I could have done with a little set rotation at the two Manchester nights.

In the Resident Advisor podcast Stepehen/Bernard discuss changing the setlist by adding "new" old songs - they added Isolation, and Thieves Like Us, after two days reharsal. Since they are playing festivals, and not everyone can see them every night of a tour (I can't anymore), it's not unknown that they would have a static setlist that didn't change : the 1993 shows were VERY predictable. It would be nice if they moved the set around a bit (Elegia/Crystal as the first encore), or played say 3 out of pool of 9, so every show was different (i.e. AOC, LV, 586, TLU, R&R, HTS, WFTSC, 1963, Isolation) to keep it fresh. If they played a set that ran in order, for example, that would look like -

Temptation, Blue Monday, Perfect Kiss, BLT, True Faith, Round & Round, Regret, Crystal, Here To Stay, Krafty, Love Will Tear Us Apart enc : Ceremony, Transmish

- that would be quite fun... what surprises me is that if it was just Greatest Hits, R&R, and World In Motion, would be shoe-ins.

im just gutted when i went to see them at brixton they left out 1963 and here to stay .
surley the only time you should play the greatest hits is at festvals.

i think they should drop the joy divison songs and just play new order..

still at least they are bringing back the older songs these days.
would love to hear subculture or sooner then you think live

I say shuffle.
Plenty of good songs in the back catalogue.
Got segments of festival audiences that know all songs, know some hits, know only BM and LWTUA and don't know who they are they're just there to booze and have fun. Why cater just to one segment. If people don't hear the lesser known songs at festivals when will they hear them? They might get to like them.
(WIM might backfire outside England)
