Set list was the same as last night, except they brought Crystal back. The horrors joked about they're not playing BM tonight - I'd hope it would be true!

Btw was surprised to know that barney doesn't use autocue this time. Big applause! Big Grin

Anyway as someone who took 15 hours of flight (layover not included) just to see them it would be a bit disappointing. I'll set my hope to hookys show in Belfast then!

Just got back.Nearly didn't go as have got an excruciating trapped nerve at the moment ( going to chiropractor in the morning) but pumped myself full of painkillers and jumped on the train down to London.Except the trains were all messed up and i didn't get to Brixton til 8.30 pm whereas i'd wanted to get there around 7pm and have a look in the Canterbury Arms first for a meet up and a few beers; did anyone go in there beforehand? Digi and Rocket did you go in there? Went to straight to the Academy in the end and a good job as the queue was right round to the back but it moved bloody fast. The place was absolutely packed inside. Queue at the bar was mental but again that moved quickly too thank fuck - i was thirsty. How long have 2 pint glasses been available in this country? I don't get out much obviously so it was a first to me but a great idea and cuts down on trips to the bar .Expensive though at £9.60 a throw.

I'm such a short arse i could only see the video screens for first few numbers as i was right at the back near the bar but Singularity sounded good and Ceremony brought back memories of that very early 80s New Order vibe. Can't recall what came after that as i returned to the bar as craning my neck was doing my head in. Brixton Academy being sloped towards the stage has its advantages and disadvantages.Great if you quite a way in or half way down but as the stage is in effect quite low down if you're right at the back near the bar area and are short arse you've got no chance.Went out for a quick cig after Lonesome Tonight but heard big cheers a while later and came back in and Elly Jackson had joined them again for Tutti and POTHL.Have to be honest but POTHL didn't do much for me tonight and was getting tired of craning my neck at the back so decided to make my way down to the front and the moshpit which seemed to burst into life from BLT , which was fantastic, onwards.Decided to stay in the moshpit from then on and there was lots and lots of silliness and fun down there.WFTSC, Plastic, True Faith, Perfect Kiss followed though i'm not sure if in that order.By Temptation the moshpit was taking its toll on me and i had to retreat to the bar.Stayed for the encore of Atmosphere and half of LWTUA but had to leave to catch the last train home as couldn't stay in London the night.I'm assuming they played BM as very last song of encore ?

Not a bad gig but if i hadn't ventured into the moshpit and had the craic i'm not sure i'd have enjoyed it as much.I still think the November 2005 gig at Brixton Academy was my favourite of the 3 times i've now seen them there. It wasn't , i don't know, just quite as mad, carefree, fun and inspired tonight as that 2005 gig. Also, i found the sound didn't travel that well to the back, it was only when i got nearer to the front that it had that extra punch.

Oh and i bought one of the Music Complete flags - £15 a shot.Fcuk knows why i bought it, something different i suppose.May try and post a pic of it.

I'm surprised you managed to move around the venue that easily! I get cheesed off doing the "excuse me's" and pushing through.
Gotta admit I was getting a bit bored of the Elly Jackson show during POTHL on Monday. One from her would have been enough (and if NO could have rehearsed Nothing But A Fool, and done that instead, I'd be chuffed).
I agree that 2005 (ten years ago!! wtf!) was more enjoyable. I think partly because the crowd has got old and boring in the intervening years. Not so much singing along and dancing these days.
And just to piss people off...Hooky's presence used to make me feel connected to the band on stage, perhaps more than some current band members do.

Oh don't get me wrong it was bloody difficult getting down to the front. It took a LOT of "excuse me's".Yeah you make some good points regarding comparisons to the 2005 gig - people have got older and more boring in the 10 intervening years ( 10 .Bloody.Years.Jeez).There were a lot of twenty somethings in the moshpit last night and you just have to accept the older fans just ain't going to do the moshpit thing anymore- surprised myself by feeling the urge to get down there but like yourself i was a bit bored after the Elly Jackson show and needed to have some fun.Good point about Hooky giving more of a connection than some band members do now.But i can't forgive Hooky for what he's said in recent years .Makes it an even bigger shame.

Bernard wasn't very chatty bewteen songs last night (which helps in forming a connection to the band on stage) or maybe i missed one or two between-songs banter? I only recall some banter about Elly Jackson being a cockney or something.

Canterbury's shut now. Is going to be flats, I think?

Rocket and Digi were in the Trinity.

Much quieter gig than Monday I thought. Didn't have the same atmosphere.

I ended up leaving the gig during Plastic cos my better half phoned to say the incoming storm had screwed our trains over so if I was going to get home, I'd best leave now!

Ha! Crikey, didn't know that.As i said i went straight to the Academy. The only person i saw was Ness and her fella a bit ahead of me in the queue.

When i got in there was a Hot Chip track playing; brilliant track that i know but can't recall the name of and the version playing i think may have been a remix.

The intro music pre NO arriving on stage is vaguely reminiscent of the strings on Krafty, some classical piece.Maybe it's where NO took inspiration from to form the strings on that song.

Oh and evening, RocketHi Shame i missed you and Digi.Hopefully catch you at Wolves gig.

It's Wagner's Das Rheingold:

Definitely reminiscent of Krafty, and All Day Long as well.

If DJ TinTin was playing the same tracks on Tuesday that he played on Monday then the Hot Chip track was Huarache Lights. There are indeed a couple of remixes of the track, most notably the Soulwax remix (the video is suprisingly mesmerising in full screen). However I reckon it was TinTin's own mix/re-edit of the track that he played on Monday. He's a good choice of DJ for NO gigs; his 2011 set at the Troxy was ace too. He also played Kraftwerk's Aerodynamik on Monday, and I'm pretty sure it was this remix by the increasingly ubiquitious...Hot Chip.

I always associate Das Rheingold with All Day Long. I think of Krafty as recycling All Day Long, particularly on one of the remixes.
I don't think that was the classical piece playing on Monday night with the French flag though. Perhaps that was something French? Anyone know?

Yeah i think it may well have been that Heurache Lights track, maybe the DJ TinTin mix/re edit you mention, not the Soulwax one. Thanks for posting.DJ TinTin was fond of playing Orbital's Where Is It Going? pre gig on NO's April/May 2012 UK tour - really got me in the mood when he spun that one.

I wrote a review of both nights here : http://www.thefinalword....uk/content/view/1339/35/

And pictures from the 17th are at : https://www.flickr.com/p...d/sets/72157660877263540

I went down the pit for the 16th, but the 17th - as it was my 19th gig in 35 days - I decided not to get too far down the front.
