The subject of tribute bands is always a very emotive one, some people just can't get them at all, others love them. I must admit that I never had any intention of being in a tribute band until Stash's Homage night in 2002, when the combination of Goldblade's Martin, Jim Reilly and myself first got up and did Truth without any rehearsal, but it was great fun to be playing the songs and it sort of grew from there.

With any tribute bands though, like with purveyors of original material, you get good bands and shit bands. Some tribute bands are professional tributes, playing countless gigs in toilets all up and down the country. Fair play, if that's what floats their boat. Until they tire of JD/NO and switch to the next band to clone. Some prefer to go for the special occasion element, playing as and when they want to. Some tribute bands are absolutely awful, anyone remember that JD tribute Unknown Pleasures, who had the fat singer who whistled the keyboard parts as they didn't have keys for LWTUA? Some bands go for the look as priority over the sound. Some focus on the sound but look nothing like the act they are supposed to be a tribute to. I guess the best thing is a happy medium. Digital always went for authentic sound but tried to look half right. Re:Order generally got look and sound right, having Ian's collection of genuine Hooky basses on board helped. When Ian and Jim swapped bands, Digital changed name to Joy Revision and we got all the good gear!

From what I've heard of Substance, they sound really authentic and are clearly enjoying what they do, which has to be the aim at the end of the day for most people. New Dawn Fades from Aberdeen look right, not seen them yet but they seem well received.

All this "we're the best band in the world" you get from some acts is all bollocks, especially when they've only done a handful of shows!

There's enough room for all the tribute bands, but at the end of the day you have to sound right else there's no point.

I really like Jonathan's Band SUBSTANCE. They do a great version of 'Dream Attack' and are good friends of ours.

Not heard much of Re-Order only the couple of tracks on Youtube so its tricky to know what they are really like. I will try and catch them the next time they are in The North.

Thanks for the complement TruOrder2015. We love playing Dream Attack, modeled after the "Live From Montreaux" version --- two guitars really makes this song. Unfortunately, it is considered a deep cut track in most venues we play. So we don't play it as often as we'd like to. Cheers!

I think its a travesty to put Peter Hook and the Light in this poll. There is an ongoing dispute over the name of New Order and despite the vitriol between the two camps, Peter Hook was integral to the crafting of some of the most amazing songs in the history of music. It would be like saying Roger Waters is a tribute to Pink FloydConfused

Although i don't see any point in voting for myself for as someone just said it is better to let your performance speak for itself, I don't agree with the bitter comment about King Georges Hall. It was a great gig. Last count of ticket sales was 290. That might be because Blackburn is our home town and we always do OK here. Saying that we have recently played another gig in Derby to 10 people Smile So it's highs and lows but its still a thrill to play NO tracks.

It looks as if the light will play substance, then technique, republic , get ready , wftsc, lost sirens ,bad lieutenant, then the 3 electronics, and music complete, by which time Neworder may have another release or two so as to keep the light busy.

I voted The Light. Funny enough that they don't top the poll.
