Very sad. While I wasn't an "uber fan" his influence over pretty much anything musical in the UK over the last 40 years is undeniable. Especially on the bands(s) for which we visit these forums to yap on endlessly about He's got such a vast discography you could spend months sifting through it and still only scratch the surface. I admire the way he kept reinventing himself both visually and musically. He just seemed to be an interesting bloke really and a true character which is what you need in pop music. It was obviously a bit of a shock to read he had the big C but I really admire how he kept that totally private and devoted himself to his family (plus those two records) in his final years. It's a bit blind siding because only last week it was all "Happy Birthday Bowie" and the papers were full of articles on his new record. Sudden doesn't really seem to cover it but it's obvious now that he planned his musical exit well in advance (the Lazarus video). I notice that Steve and Hooky have put out tweets of condolence.

I wasn't a huge fan of Bowie either, but I cannot overlook for how many musicians - whom have influenced me - were influenced by him.
The one remastered CD album I bought was Let's Dance. Modern Love was one of my favourite songs of his. |

Yeah , pretty much what NotAmod said, i wasn't a massive fan of Bowie's music but there was no denying he was one very talented guy. A few nice words from Bernard about Bowie over on NewOrderNow link

David Bowie the only Artist I would miss New order for( Glastonbury87),David Bowie came into my life via top of the pops wow was he different to the other glam rockers this was the real deal and such effortless transition into soul and then Berlin. So savvy so outside so unique all his career , not a great actor but a damn interesting watch On Sunday I had his new cd in my hand, today took a walk past the Brixton murural that's how life goes, so fast and so many fans of different ages hanging one great comment 69 pretty good for a Rock star, if he'd didt snort it, inject it, shag it then it wasn't worth bothering about,,,,wife and I love absolute beginners it's our love song it's Bowie in Our life like he was in so many o I have a fave Dave song not realy u can put on his music to suit or make the mood. Still seems unreal. Just so final. Another reminder of mortality as if it were needed, the end of an era - cliches but true. I’ve listened to Bowie since I was at school, my fave album being Scary Monsters. So many great songs - Heroes, Wild is the Wind, Because You’re Young, Soul Love, Five Years, The Man Who Sold The World, Rebel Rebel, Queen Bitch, Is it really over? I somehow almost expect him to reappear with a cheeky grin as some new character.

I just really liked the guy.Never a bought a record of his in my entire life though i liked a lot of his hits but yeah, just really liked him; he always came across in interviews as extremely dignified , polite, funny and despite his otherworldly aura and global superstardom a down to earth bloke who liked a laugh and a joke.I've not been hysterically crying or having to take time off work but i'm sad that he's gone. But we all die sometime. But just felt, much like John Peel and Tony Wilson who died relatively early, that he had a good few more years in him. Wish the whole clip of that bit when he appeared in Extras was available on YouTube. It was just brilliant. edit: the Extras clip hereEdited by user 14 January 2016 22:28:05(UTC)
