T2 Trainspotting is out tomorrow. The Fat White Family have this on the soundtrack. I caught them live for my third and fourth time in 2016. Always entertaining live. Underworld on there too with Slow Slippy - a weird slowed down version of the original, like it's being played at the wrong speed.

^ Not seen Trainspotting 2 yet and not sure i'm that bothered but hey we'll see. That Arcade Fire song Afterlife has been incessantly rattling around my head again recently since i heard it for the first time in a while in a pub. It's been mentioned on here before for the fact it has a similarity in part to NO's Temptation in the keyboards. But anyway i really like this video/live performance of it.This from 2013 apparently but i'd not seen it before. At the 2013 YouTube music awards , i like that it's half video (or so it seems at first ha ha) and half live performance, a hybrid if you like and it totally works, yah. That's film director Greta Gerwig with the marvellous dancing in the clip? I think i can safely say i've taken a big liking to her after watching her freeform moves Life affirming, as they used to say a long long time ago.Does anyone ever say that anymore? probably just me then.

Thought T2 was a great film, but I'm not mad on Slow Slippy on the soundtrack, I prefer the more ambient versions they played in the film (a lot of other Underworld reworks of earlier stuff are in the film but not on the soundtrack too)
I've been listening to the new Elbow and Thievery Corporation albums over the last 10 days or so, ahead of seeing their London shows early next month.

Was dragged to see Trainspotting 2 last Night.Nostalgia overload at times. Spud stumbling across that street in Edinburgh to the instrumental strings slow of Slow Slippy- kinda sad and a reflection on ageing and time and lost stuff ..maybe...
Despite some funny and great scenes with Spud, Begbie scary and all that and the lovely Veronika i came away from the cinema pretty depressed and desolate.Kinda felt like Renton, Spud, and Sickboy had finally been dragged down by the system and the establishment they so euphorically kicked against 20 years ago.Or maybe it was just because it was a sunday night in February and the heady 90s days when i was in my 20s are long gone.Dunno, just came away depressed d thinking the system and the establishment and the idiots are winning now comapred to the 90s.Or maybe i just need Prozac or something.

Prozac? How very 90s! Oh look we have spoiler tags, those'll be handy in a minute. I enjoyed catching up with the characters, especially Begby who was still that unique combination of funny and frightening.
Without Begbie I don't think we would have had much of a film, although somehow Spud and Sickboy seemed more important this time round too. The ending was indeed a bit of a downer - a very different feel to Renton's euphoric getaway at the end of T1. I ended up reading IMDB's mesage boards (which were closed down on Monday after 15 years, boo!) where they pointed out the repeated line "first there was opportunity then there was betrayal" which I guess is what Renton did in T1. At the end of T2, Renton and Sickboy have their friendship back because the opportunity has been stolen away from them (Spud has a purpose, Veronika has the money). But the idea that Renton is back where he started is definitely frustrating. Lots of fun bits along the way though: The new toilet scene, carpark chase, unionist club. I'm almost tempted to watch it again and leave ten minutes before the end.
Oh and Veronika was indeed lovely. If Born Slippy.NUXX was the "revelation" song from T1, this is the one that grabbed me on the T2 soundtrack (first 30 seconds are quiet):

^ Oh absolutely about Begbie- that mix of funny and frightening is brilliant. We were laughing at many scenes so i wasn't all doom and gloom. The unionist club scene was well funny.I really should have watched the first film again before seeing this one though, would have made a big difference as my memories of the first are getting a bit hazy.

Have been playing a lot of the funk lordz Chromeo in the car this week( THIS WEEK I'VE BEEN MOSTLY EATING/WEARING).Though the American guy i give a lift to and from work has been like "what da fuck is this shit?" He's from Brooklyn, don't ask me how he ended up in Warwickshire, England.I don't even know myself. But yeah, the Funk Lordz Chromeo and their hit song Jealous (I Ain't With It) has been getting some serious replay on the car stereo

Joy Division- Atmosphere 12".It's early March and i've always associated the song with this point in the year, those hopeful yet early days of spring. The snowy photo on the cover felt to me like was always early March rather than mid December.

"It was Sumner, now it's Autumn" (I can't help thinking the vocal is slightly out of sync with the music, even though it's not a sample of Bernard.)

Patti Smith -People Have The Power.Well, yeah, as those dumbasses in America proved by voting the clown Trump in ,Patti must have done a massive facepalm after that.Vague memory of this song being released back in about 1988 and me really loving it, nostalgic for the song and Patti fantastic in the video yet mixed feelings now it gives the wrong message to a lot of dumb people. *facepalm*

I knew NO used to do a cover of that Sparks song, but i'd never heard the original song til that clip you posted.I think i may have heard the New Order live cover once years ago on an old boot cassette or a youtube clip but never listened entirely or properly. But listening to that clip in full its great.Echoes of stuff like Hurt and Prime 586 in there (which'd make sense as in early 80s) along with the Sparks cover.I like it. I am rediscovering Tanita Tikaram's classic debut 'Ancient Heart'. It is total and utter fucking shit. What the fuck is she on about - 'Serious for the Wintertime to wrest my soul, whole cotton! Whole cotton ears... You'll never be more than twist in my sobriety... I want hot gristle sandwiches so move the fireside baby, I'd rather be cold' - there are fucked up, drugged up, coke heavy prog rock bloated wankbags in Seattle whose lyrics make more sense than yours. You really are a pretentious, arrogant, self-obsessed little twot aren't you Tanita? A pretentious, totally self-absorbed, thinks-she's-TSEliot-when-she's-Dolores-Cranberry, fails-to-get-to-college-so-pretends-she-never-wanted-to-in-the-first-place twot. Irritating, totally self-centred, thinks-she's-cleverer-more-poetic-more-intellectual-than-she-is, two-arty-farty-ancient-hearty-singles-in-three-decades-and-they're-still-shit, string-a-bunch-of-meaningless-bullshit-together-in-the-hope-some-equally-pretentious-tosspile-like-me-back-then-will-fall-for-it-and-I-did total fucking utter fucking twot.
