Bit typical that they swapped out "Behind Closed Doors" for "Heart & Soul." How weak. Wink

What a superb all round excellent full on New Order day and night. In the day time went to the true faith exhibition at the art galley and then spent a small fortune in the shop! If you are visiting Manchester I recommend a visit to this exhibition. Then off to see a wonderful New Order show. Drank some stray dog at last, a nice hoppy ale and spent more money on a rather nice grey sweater.

What a set New Order played, nearly bought tears to my eyes to hear Ultraviolence, Dream Attack, vanishing point, All day Long. A superbl YSF. Enjoyed the JD tracks last night as well, excellent for Disorder and Decades. It seems harsh to add any critism but I was expecting TLU. And EGG. However a small gripe, this really was a new order gig to remember. I thought VP sounded huge, God knows why they never play this. I thought the criowd could have gone more wild, this is what we have been wanting from a New Order set list for ages, so nice not to to hear Blue Monday, and LWTUA for once. Danced the whole set, was a sweaty beast after, very hot in there though, would have sweated even if I stood still, which unbelievably some people did.

Really good stage set up, the 12 keyboard players partially hidden had a very kraftwerk-y feel about it. Great sound. Just wish it as longer. Spoke to Jarvis Cocker on the walk back to the hotel seems a nice bloke. Had a photo with my wife.

Just wish I could go again, these gigs are a must for NO obsessives. Just make sure you get a ticket you won't be disappointed.

This was asked on the thread for Thursday's gig:

Footage from Saturday found.
Dare I suggest it isn't a remix, although I think they've added some extra "stringsy" keys in places.

ah Vanishing Point. Really distorted recording alas.

Heart & Soul also really distorted

I didn't do Thursday but was there last night. There were some minor changes to the set list... Times Change (never ever thought I'd type that in a live context) replaced Elegia which I was secretly relieved at because we already heard enough of Elegia in 2011-12; the band weren't onstage yet as an instrumental Times Change was played by the "synth-chestra". Heart And Soul made also an appearance and Ultraviolence sounded quite menacing once it got going... incredible to hear.

Without overstating things by the time we got a third of the way through the set I had already decided this was an easy highlight of having seen New Order live over the years (with or without you-know-who). It's definitely up there. Bar a few very minor technical glitches at the start the whole concept gelled together brilliantly and so hat off to both the band and visual designer. If you'd told me a year ago I'd be hearing Dream Attack, Shellshock, Vanishing Point or even Disorder I'd have been dismissive... Subculture was simply surreal (in a very good way). It's just such a shame that the set list will presumably return to normality afterwards but hopefully they'll keep a few of these 'resurrected' tracks on standby and swap them into the established running order occasionally. It would be nice for overseas fans to hear some of these tunes.

A shout out to the young keyboardists who added to the show... like energetic clones of Kraftwerk being kept trapped in square wardrobes Tongue

A decent live album of this concept would also be welcome. They've got 5 nights to capture the best versions of each song and paste them together into a nice souvenir for attendees and non-attendees alike. In other words: "Take our money!" etc.

Well, that was every bit as good as I'd hoped and expected, especially having seen Thursday's setlist.

A pint of Stray Dog got the event off to a good start and I was impressed with how much room we had for once at a No gig.

The set up on stage was really well done; the lightshow and Kraftwerkesque silhouettes worked fantastically and like many others, I was beguiled by #12's kinetic performance.

Opening with just 12K performing a stomping rendition of Times Change set the scene perfectly and what followed was nothing short of sublime, with at least half a dozen songs I hadn't heard live before and others reworked brilliantly.

There were so many highlights (Dream Attack, Vanishing Point, Ultraviolence, All Day Long and more) but for me, the standout was Subculture, which blew me away.

Some good onstage chemistry too, with Steve winding up Barney by playing the opening beats of Blue Monday, 12kDave on the bass synth getting a 'bollocking' for not setting off H&S properly etc &c.

The perfect night was rounded off by walking out into the warm summer rain of Manchester on the way back to the Abercrombie. :-)

[If anyone is struggling for a ticket, a nice bloke called Tony (who I'd never met before) sorted one of our lot out at a very reasonable rate all things considered. He gave me his number and web addy, which I'd be happy to pass on, if it's OK with the mods.]

Good point about th space. Although sold out plenty of room to move about.

Surely Subculture will remain in future NewOrder sets, sounded immense as did Ultraviolence and VP and DA and..........I could go on. Will live long in the memory

Just a note to vinyl obsessives such as myself. If you go to the Manchester Art gallery for the true faith exhibition they have a 1000 copies of pc&l on silver vinyl and Closer on white vinyl. Great for me as my pc&l and closer vinyls ar well worn as I only gave the original factory ones. Limited to one copy per person. Also available are the post card sets for both bands by Kevin Cummings as well as tees, lots of books. Take your credit card.

Yes i was in there today, saw the limited edition silver vinyl PC&L and white vinyl Closer (each £35) but didn't snap up either as i'm not that obsessive.Didn't think Cummings small boxes of New Order postcards and the same for Joy Division were worth £30 nice as they were.Did you see also the birthday card type ones across to the right of the shop? Lego type cartoons of the band members and lyrics to one or two songs over different cards and also a couple of colour ones with "stitch" (?) writing listing Fac numbers and even a mention for The Vikings and the fact their sons and daughters of The Vikings are Fac384?

The exhibition is pretty good.Worth a visit and it's free entry. While i was at Manchester Art Gallery my attention was also drawn to a a gallery of photos by a a lady called Shirley Baker who has her photos collection "Women and Children; and Loitering Men" on display, it's incredible photos of the slums of Salford in the early 1960s to 1970s before they were all knocked down; all the kids and families in the battered old streets, a time and era gone forever.

On my way back to my car (tip: Great Jackson Street car park , about 10 minutes walk rom Manc city centre) is cheap- £4.50 per day though the machine doesn't take the new £1 coins yet) i stumbled across the Castlefield area and the where NO played almost a year ago. That canal area is great and topped off a great day out.

No I didn't see those other cards with the Lego and fac numbers, my wife will be leased as she saw my total adding up! She talked me out of buying the post cards as well, which I think is for the bet but I couldn't resist the coloured vinyls of 2 of my favourite records of all time.
