An interesting topic but plenty I disagree with. That's the NME.

Would anyone (apart from whoever wrote that article) honestly describe Ruined In A Day as 'Italo-disco'?
Just like the defunct print version of the NME, that article is totally pointless, its not as if they have a new record out, or are doing any UK shows, so why did someone decide to write that?

There is some really droll stuff on GR. WFTSC has the title track and Turn which are flipping brilliant. Jetstream however is pants. Their top 3 could be in any order TBH.

What Italo-disco has so-called Thomas Smith been listening to that reminds him of 'Ruined in a Day'?
There's hitherto undiscovered tribes in the heart of the Amazon Jungle that could distinguish a bona-fide Italo Disco track.
The whole article falls down if you can't get that right

What a total and utter pile of shit. Vanishing Point, Round and Round and Guilty parner are FUN? Don't invite me to any of your parties... Slow Jam a HIGHLIGHT? The lyrics make David Beckham sound like Stephen Hawking... Movement, an album that can't even get KeepItComing to keep it cumming, proudly mid-post ahead of Music Technique? An album with Face Up ahead of Technique? Bollocks. Bollocks. Really. just - bollocks.

It would be hard to have made a worse job of that list. Maybe it's a wind up - Movement that high? Had to be just to antagonise us!
I also don't like it when Substance is arbitrarily excluded from any of these lists. Why? It's the elephant in the room and their best album. Is it a greatest hits? I think it's big enough and has enough originality to be considered a real album. Certainly more so than Best of/ Rest of (Jesus that was shit)/ International/ Retro/ Singles whatever.
No Lost Sirens either. I know it's not considered an album by most people here, but it's still an official release.

The strange thing about Repubelice is how everyone concentrates on the difficunties of the period and not the actual songs. Even Steve's comments for Select and more recently online were always on the shitty time - there's very little analysis of the music itself.

If we are rating the covers ,then it is an exceptable evaluation. But since Get Ready has the nice young lady it is first, then Republic ,for its' images to look at. The rest are nice in a artsy way, but not particularly exciting- why not honey badgers having a good time or robots destroying Batman and spiderman action figures? More on action figures next week |
