Slough, UK & Orleans, France '85 shows released last night and today via the The Power Of Independent Trucking blog.

The Slough one sounds absolutely superb next to the older boot and is easily on par with an official live album.

Hopefully there's a few more mastered goodies in the series to come Smile

How does one open/unzip a FLAC file.

What 'player' to use --- iTunes?

Thanks!

FLAC is a free lossless file format so you're basically getting full CD quality - players which offer playback include WinAmp and foobar2000.

iTunes and Windows Media Player natively do not since they are owned by big companies who would prefer people use their exclusive lossless formats.

I would recommend foobar2000 because you can convert the FLAC into any other format you want really; including to WAV or AIFF for CD-R burning purposes.

Windows Media Player will play FLACs if you install the freeware Windows 7 codec pack and WMP Tag Plus (in that order).

For Macs I'm not so sure but I'm sure there's freeware players out there that will handle FLACs.

I also highly recommend Foobar2000. Free, simple, not a resource hog and does not require constant updating and connection with the Mothership unlike iTunes and Mediaplayer. If you feel the need to convert to mp3 so you can play it on your Apple Humancentipod I recommend dBPowerAmp. Simple and easy to use.

These are all from the Sounboard box that were rescued in the early 90's and eventually sold to a well known NO site owner if memory serves.

Cannae mind how many there were, but there should be a few more soon. All those that were put onto CD were from the 84/85 period.

And no, it isnae my site.

The number of hits and downloads of the three gigs so far has finally compelled me to start a proper blog for these things.

Visit The New Order Archives for the good stuff. That's where these are going from here on out.

Would they, now that its been made publicly available and most of the fans will download it?

I wonder how the band feels? Black eye

I would imagine if the band were seriously unhappy with what the Analog Loyalist was doing then they would have instructed their management and/or record label to have these (and the Recycle blog) pulled down long ago. Since that hasn't happened - Recycle's been up there for 3 years now - then I think it's safe to assume some sort of tacit approval for what's been happening. These shows would have disappeared into a rich collector's stash never to be heard again and I for one think it's wonderful all the fans get to hear them. Add to that, lower quality versions of these shows have been circulating amongst fans (for free) for decades now; bar AL's superb new mastering they're not really new content.

As for your assertion regarding Warners "Would they (release them)?" - of course they wouldn't, it just wasn't going to happen and we'd probably get another fucking "Best Of".

Plus the original band can't even agree on a release for the remaining original material (Lost Sirens) let alone come together to approve a series of obscure mid-80s gigs.

This was the only way.

Steve loved the Recycle blog, the label thought it was terrifically executed but weren't happy the stuff was downloadable for free. Bernard - as of a month or so ago - had never even heard of the Recycle blog. So I'd say they are aware.

I've not been instructed by Andy to cease/desist the Archives project - then again, it's only been up for a few days. But unless I start posting private tapes (which I won't), I don't expect any sort of direction from the label or management at all. As stated in the blog's mission statement, all material I post will be community sourced and generally-otherwise-available live stuff, except mastered to near-perfection. They'd have a bit of a project on their hands if they wanted all these live postings here, there and everywhere, stopped and removed.

As I alluded to in the "welcome" post on TNOA, the label/band had the perfect opportunity to do this themselves, with their hundreds of soundboard tapes from Rob's and Hooky's archives, in 2008. There were semi-concrete plans in place to do a series of gigs, one for each album, and the gigs were chosen, tapes mastered by me, and ultimately delivered to the band ready to go. Then the label dropped it. None of those gigs (except maybe that chosen for Technique, which came from us anyway) will be posted on TNOA.

lots of good concerts
at the new order archives.

the latest : hollywood 1986:

The New Order Archives: 4 Nov 1986 The Palace, Hollywood

http://archive.new-order...palace-hollywood-ca.html

==============================================================================

the best thing about all these
concerts is that they are SO MUCH BETTER
than anything new order has done in
the last decade or so..

every concert is unique, and great
song choices, and fun changes..

the perfect kiss and blue monday
always sound excellent..

these concerts make their current
ones from this tour look very
plain and simple, and the versions
are much better (although the new
586 is pretty good).

go check out all these concerts
and you won't be disappointed..

currently listening to the
hollywood one.
