Paul Morley and his speech impediment reminds us about BM, Relax and the fact that - as a founder of ZTT - he was kinda responsible for all those Frankie remixes.

He interviews Peters Saville & Hook. The latter claiming BM was the start of dance music (eh, that might depend on your definition of dance music, Hooky).

I don't really agree with the opinion that CD singles werre "frustrating" or "meaner" than 12"s. I reckon they provided lots of continuous music without the issues of distortion as the needle gets closer to the label (discussed in this very programme). And until the BPI brought in 20 minute rules in the UK, you could sometimes have as much as an hours' worth of music/remixes on one CD single.
And actually the discussion of not going too near to the centre of the record has me thinking about that Tutti Frutti 12". Maybe that's why they edited it down a bit.

I also learned that Ten Per Cent by Double Exposure was the first commercially released 12" single. And it was nice to hear Tom Moulton discussing it.

Don't think I learned anything new about BM though. Except that today is "officially" Blue Monday.

Gave it a listen. It’s ok, nothing new to be learned about Blue Monday but the stuff about how a vinyl record is cut and how a better sound is achieved on a 12” were of more interest.

I remember ZTT being everywhere in 1984, or maybe it’s becsuse Frankie were everywhere. Relax and Two Tribes remind of trying to get served underage in pubs. My brother had that , I think, Annhilation remix 12” of Two Tribes, it was brilliant. Also worth mentioning when talking of ZTT are Propaganda. Still have the 12” of Dr Mabuse and their album A Secret Wish which had great songs like Murder Of Love and Duel/Jewel on.

I guess the only remaining unknown about Blue Monday is what does Bernard do when he disappears backstage while the first few minutes are played of the song at gigs?
