Johnny Marr has responded to the chances of a potential reunion with Bernard Sumner to reform Electronic.

The New Order frontman and Marr formed the highly influential synth-pop duo in 1988, and made three acclaimed albums – with their last ‘Twisted Tenderness’ released in 1999.

There has been much talk and hope of the duo reuniting to tour and record more new material, and former The Smiths turned solo icon Marr seems open to the idea.

When asked about the chances of Electronic returning, Marr told NME: “Never say never, but we have some problems with the drum machine. It’s a legal thing.

He joked: “When we find the manual, we’ll get back together because neither Bernard or I can remember how to work it.”

Recent solo tours have seen Marr performing Electronic’s classic breakthrough single ‘Getting Away With It’ – with Bernard joining him on stage to perform the track together at Jodrell Bank back in 2013.

This comes after Marr revealed that he and Morrissey met in 2008 and discussed the possibility of reforming The Smiths, but that talks later came to nothing.

This week, Marr also distanced himself from Morrissey’s controversial comments seemingly in favour of both Brexit and Nigel Farage.
“I always forget about that,” he said. “That’s just stuff that I hear second hand. If it is the case that he’s pro-Farage, then there would be a slight drawback in that I think, as anyone can imagine.”

Marr releases his autobiography Set The Boy Free this week. He’ll be talking about this book at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music on 7 November and at Milton Court at London’s Barbican on 10 November.

Well, I seem to recall that they mostly used a Roland TR-909 as a drum machine. So, here... Lemme help sort that reunion out with a manual:

I'd sooner Bernard did another New Order album than reform Electronic.

The first Electronic album will always be one of my favourites, great times. RTP is a poor follow up and TT was good.

Maybe Marr can reform but with Hooky as Hooky states in his book Mar asked him before Barney back in the mid 80's

oh how i really wished Johnny wrote more about Electronic in his book. with the exception of a few articles from Melody Maker and NME, i never really saw all that much written about Electronic, even when they were a thing.
