For Winter Music Conference I stayed more in Mid-Beach at the FountainBleau / Eden Roc areas. For this, I want to keep it more in walking distance to the Fillmore, since my wife will be dog-sitting and hanging outside during the show. Art Deco is a plus.

Any specific ideas? Anywhere to stay or not to stay? Right now The Shelborne is looking good, especially considering the available price verses the $800+ standard rate.

I've attended my share of NO Shows, nothing spectacular though. 1986 in college, 1989 Technique, 1993 Republic, 2010-2012 at Roseland, 2016 Music Complete a few nights apart in NYC (RCMH) and Philly.

Any ideas? Can my wife wait backstage with the dogs, they love NO! Well, the dogs do.

If you're getting a good price at the Shelbourne, I'd say go for it. I actually parked by the Shelbourne for the show back in January of this year so you'll be right there. The good thing about Miami Beach is you can pretty much walk to anything. I assume Ocean Drive/South Beach will probably be more expensive since that's a heavy tourist area.

If all else fails you could always find an AirBnB.

Donzii opening on the first two nights, and Rockers Revenge on the second two nights: New Order

Its also been announced that this Wednesday will be New Order Day in Miami : I don't know if anywhere other than the Fillmore is getting involved, and I don't know if you have to have a ticket for the concert to get into the after party in the Fillmore lobby (I won't arrive in South Beach until about 9 o'clock that night and I can't think security would let anyone in until at least 11).

Donzii - Sand

Newest single from Donzii, they sound interesting. Wish they were playing one of the weekend shows.

"Expect Surprises" in New Order's Miami Beach 'residency'

New Order’s music may not immediately conjure up images of sand and sun.

But as of next week, Miami Beach will officially be home to the Manchester stalwarts. On Tuesday, the band begin what is believed to be its first-ever multi-day residency, at The Fillmore. The city will officially declare Wednesday “New Order Day.”

Speaking from dreary Manchester, band co-founder Stephen Morris said the answer to why New Order chose Miami is quite simple.

“Miami picked us,” Morris says. The band’s history here stretches back to at least 1989, and the city has been a must-include destination for subsequent tours — especially in recent years. New Order’s most recent set of band photos was taken in the Wynwood Arts District, Morris notes. And when the band were given the keys to Miami Beach last year, the bond was cemented.

Morris agreed that working in a band like New Order is somewhat akin to how work is generally treated in Miami: You try to make it as non-work-like as possible. (Asked what to call their profession, frontman Bernard Sumner once famously once referred to the band as “bank robbers.”) And as many a tourist has realized, there are few places one would rather work from if given the chance than the Magic City.

Though the band has released a new album in each of the past four decades — and if you count predecessor Joy Division, five — its business model is now heavily dependent on touring. That said, the band has briefly stormed back into the public consciousness thanks to the trailer for the next chapter of the Wonder Woman series, “Wonder Woman 1984” which features what Morris calls a “big” version of the band’s epoch-defining “Blue Monday.”

While Morris admits the band used to take advantage of Miami’s party scene more heartily, there remains plenty for a band in New Order’s current age bracket to do. Favorite spots include Wynwood, as well as The Wolfsonian-FIU Museum.

So what can listeners expect from the residency? Night one will resemble New Order’s most recent release, a live album cut from the gig’s 2017 set during the Manchester International Festival. Morris expects Night two to be mostly greatest hits.

And as for Friday and Saturday, both of which, as of Jan. 8, had sold out?

“Expect surprises,” Morris says.

Great show last night. Honestly, I don't know why they go back to this setlist more often. Even though there were a lot of deep cuts, a lot of people were singing along to them. Bernard even said after Guilt is a Useless Emotion, "that's a fun song isn't it? Why don't we play it more often?" Disorder, Shellshock, and Dream Attack got huge reactions. I hope this concert proved that they don't have to do the same setlist every time.

It's ironic, because since it's pretty much the MIF setlist, with true faith, blue monday and temptation added.

That doesn't mean its the same setlist everytime, it's the same MIF setlist, so that's not really anything new either.

it's just that people over here finally get to see them play some of those songs
(which isn't necessarily a good thing either).

Great news on Touched By The Hand Of God. I know I'm in the minority, but I love that track.

Over two nights, they've played 27 different songs so far. Almost two completely different sets.
Not half bad, New Order! Keep it up!

Saw online that a fan met him and asked Bernard for Love Vigilantes this weekend. I hope they keep Age of Consent in there, and I'd rather have Ceremony than Transmission/Control. Isolation would be neat.

I wonder if the weekend surprises might include any guests? Brandon Flowers? Iggy Pop?

Am glad to hear the return of Touched By The Hand Of God. There was a discussion regarding the song on the Salvation! thread about a year ago;

http://forums.neworderon...sts&t=4516#post28821

I have made a quick research on setlist.com and found it first played live at Nakano Sun Plaza, Tokyo, Jan 28, 1987 — I was there and the song was the show opener. Now I know I was a witness to its live debut. A little enlightenment.

Glad I'm not alone. I got into the band around True Faith, so I was looking forward to a similar, hard-hitting follow-up and I wasn't disappointed with TBTHOG.

Here's an interesting fact about New Order and the sets they play:

Since the band reformed in 2011, they have played a total of 56 different songs (not including any covers, such as 'San Francisco', 'Shades', 'Be My Wife' etc.).
Over the two Miami nights so far, they've played a total of 27 different songs out of 35 songs played in total (8 songs were played on both nights; BLT, BM, GIUE, LWTUA, Plastic, Sub-Culture, Temptation and TF).

So they still have a choice of 29 songs, that are in their current repertoire, that they could draw from for the two remaining gigs. Even if you factor in a few songs that they'll probably play on all three nights (Temptation, BLT, TF, BM, LWTUA etc.), they could easily fill the rest of the two sets with tracks from their 'current' repertoire (i.e. ones that have been played since 2011) and we'd have four very different nights.

The reason I mention this is that I was quite surprised. In my head, I've been of the opinion that the band aren't changing the set that much (which, I know, is partly true). But 56 different songs over 10 years ain't too bad for a band that, in theory, could just be giving us their 'greatest hits' and having us put up with that.

For information here's a list of post 2011 songs (29 in total) that the band haven't played in Miami yet:

1963
5-8-6
Behind Closed Doors
Californian Grass
Ceremony
Close Range
Crystal
Elegia
Here To Stay
I'll Stay With You
In A Lonely Place
Isolation
Krafty
Lonesome Tonight
Love Vigilantes
People On The High Line
Regret
Round & Round
Run Wild
Shadowplay
Singularity
Stray Dog
Superheated
The Game
The Perfect Kiss
Thieves Like Us
Times Change
Waiting For The Sirens' Call
World

The only downside in all this is the fact that, New Order could easily play all 56 songs that are in the current line-up over the four nights, without introducing any 'new old' songs (Everything's Gone Green, is the obvious one, for instance).

They used Times Change as their walk-on music both nights. I even posted a link above. It’s not fair to say they’ve performed it, when it was performed by the synth orchestra before the band hit the stage during those gigs.

I don’t see them doing a proper full band performance. While I love the music and the chorus, the rapping verses have not aged well at all.
