Hi all, does everyone have this?

https://www.discogs.com/...ens-Call/release/4773193

Can anyone clarify if it was released as a complete package like this? I have a very dim memory of getting the sleeve in the post, on its own but am not certain...

Not to my knowledge. Just three separate 45s. Looks unofficial but in the words of William Shakespeare, what the fuck do I know?

I believe it was an official item, but I can't recall how you acquired the sleeve. I'm thinking it was available only in Europe. I'm in the US and purchased the sleeve on eBay.

The sleeve was released separately as were each of the x3 7" singles.I have the sleeve and all the 7" singles. Can't recall exactly where i ordered the sleeve from, maybe an official New Order thing but don't think it was NewOrder.com as don't remember that existing back in 2005.I received the sleeve before any of the singles.I think i managed to purchase the singles one by one over a week or two period.

So no, it wasn't originally released as all together. You had to get the sleeve and then each 7" single bit by bit.

Yeah the wallet for the three 7"s was official, and it was definitely through a website.
I remember there were instructions on how to apply for it on the NOOL homepage (i.e the main website that the NOOL forum was linked to). I think it was a link to a Warner's website.
Because I didn't have internet myself, my visits to NOOL etc were kinda sporadic (internet cafes!), and I was too slow to see it and get one sent to me.
To this day I'm mildly miffed that I don't own one.
Considering they were free, I'm damned if I'm gonna pay stupid money for one now though. I think it may have been a UK-only freebie.

I remember I won the slipcase thanks to a competition organized by Nool.

This single is one of the worst NO release. A lot of mixes have never been officially released on CD. I can't still believe there was only some poor edits released on 7"...

Nah, there's been far worse than this. Sirens' is a strong track and the mixes are worthwhile. Check out the crud London were flogging 93 to 95: RIAD CD 2, Rest of, Lionrock's 30 minutes and not one billisec of 1963... Fuck that.

I was not talking about the song or the mixes. I was talking about the official availability (CD mp3...). It was very difficult to get all the promo CDs.

I bought this set back in the day but had no record player thanks to the great divorce of 2004 - I actually owned the superlative Richard X remix of BLT for 10 years before I first heard it at the Liverpool Olympia on the NOMC15 tour!

I was lucky and bought it off ebay, all 3x7 inches with the sleeve all at once from someone that had it that way.

I already had all the 7 inches already, so i ended up duplicating those, and gave those without the sleeve to my brother.

I think i found all the promo cds too, except for the one with the unedited mixes, and also the rare rich costey instrumental,
which i still haven't found yet.

Like the albino with diarrhea, Fair do's.
There was also the ghost of a Turn single: the 7" edit on Singles, talk of a megamix bside, terne artwork and three official vids. Instead we got that silly 12 by 12 nonsense.

Seen how much the CD single goes for? One of the rarest New Order CD singles (except for the video singles).

not too bad, the 2 track one on discogs it went for $30-$50 usually.
(the 6 track promo one isn't much higher)

there's several copies up there in the range of $40 right now.

there's tons of promos that go for way more though.

Agreed, a difficult single for fans to collect at the time given the content being splayed out across numerous formats some of which were (and still are) difficult to pin down.

The Warners in-house promo CDrs were not well made either as many had skips, gloops and some of the mixes (Richard X's BLT & the Planet Funk mixes) sound as if they were taken from MP3s as opposed to a master source although I never confirmed that for certain. It was a bit rubbish paying through the nose for them on eBay and then discovering skips etc. Mind you, they would argue they were never supposed to be for sale. We would argue, well then make the audio easily available to purchase. Most of us would have happily paid £1-2 per track which was the going rate then (digitally).

My own playlist for the single consisted of the following, which I think just about mops everything up. I didn't include the "Tribute Mix" as that was intended to be a part of the never-to-be-released "Turn" single:

The 7" Mixes (3x7" content, also available on digital stores)
1. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Rich Costey Radio Edit) 3:52
2. Temptation (Secret Machines Remix Edit) 4:37
3. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Band Mix) 3:53
4. Everything's Gone Green (Cicada Remix) 4:33
5. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Jacknife Lee Remix Edit) 4:11
6. Bizarre Love Triangle (Richard X Remix Edit) 4:19

The Full Length Mixes (The 2 track CD single + Promo mixes)
7. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Rich Costey Mix) 5:39
8. Temptation (Secret Machines Remix) 7:21
9. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Rich Costey Instrumental) 5:38
10. Everything's Gone Green (Mobilegazer Remix) 4:55
11. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Jacknife Lee Remix) 6:10
12. Bizarre Love Triangle (Richard X Remix) 7:06

The Planet Funk Mixes (Again, Promo only)
13. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Planet Funk Remix) 7:27
14. Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Planet Funk Dub) 8:13

More recently, an instrumental of the album version of WFTSC was included on the recent Universal Music Publishing 2xCD promo.

It is worth noting that WFTSC (Single) was release to promote the Singles compilation and NOT the parent album of the same name - how very New Order Smile

I have both versions: the 6-track WFTSC 7" Remixes, and the 5-track "5 Tracks." Neither one has any playback issues or sounds like it was sourced from anything less than the master recordings.

a.k.a the Martin Buttrich mix. That's one of my very favorite New Order remixes - up there with Shep Pettibones' Bizarre Love Triangle and True Faith. It's a shame that wasn't made widely available.

My "5 Tracks" copy definitely has a few skips, not loads but enough to be noticeable on the odd track. I believe some copies got away without any but some clearly didn't. I have various other promos from this era and they're riddled with audio issues whether it be 4 seconds of silence at the beginning of the track to skips and jolts half-way through. If you imagine the average record company PC back in the early-to-mid 2000s furiously burning CDrs then it's not so hard to imagine all promos were not created equal. As you probably know, silver pressed CDs tend to be more reliable.

Perhaps it was a digital mastering style of the time but the both the WFTSC Planet Funk mixes and the BLT Richard X mixes sound "watery" and always have done. You hear a cymbal crash on them and it doesn't register much treble. They both sound a bit like 160kbps MP3s. Mind you, 2005 was the middle of the "loudness wars" of which WFTSC (the album) was a unfortunately fatal casualty. The album version of "I Told You So" sounds incredibly odd. It's not what I would call a good "sounding" album and the 2015 remaster didn't make up much ground. I suspect if there is ever the will (or money) that album will have to be redone from the ground up. It's just so.... loud.

Yep, completely agreed. A really good remix which was bafflingly banished to promo-only and not deemed worthy by the label for a commercial release.

I always found it amusing the band "played" both BLT and WFTSC in the style of these remixes but neither were (properly) commercially available to buy.

Imagine those fans walking out of those gigs going "loved that track, I really want to download/stream it" and not being able to find the mix?

Bizarre (no pun).

Sorry if it's a bit tacky to mention here, but since we've been discussing it,
I've been looking for the Full Length Mixes promo for ages. If anyone has one they'd be willing to sell/trade, please let me know,
I've got both CDV's and some other goodies I'd be willing to part with.
Thanks!

For a brief moment there, I thought I was reading about an instrumental version of the WFTSC album. The excitement lasted all of 10 seconds until I realised my error, but hey it was a good 10 seconds...
