Are the members of New Order (multi millionaires) helping out financially too? Or just helping by selling T Shirts so that the punter takes the load just as with tours and all other things New Order produces. Maybe during this unprecedented time, New Order don't have a contractual requirement to help them out, but they do have a moral one..... Perhaps they are, but in that case the T Shirt scheme seems a little odd to me. Edited by user 14 July 2020 08:40:19(UTC)

I've seen quite a few other fans on social media asking the same question and worried. The crew cant survive on whatever those shirts will bring in. We're talking dozens of crew people and their families here. It's also been suggested that everyone start up a crowdfunding type thing for them? Might be good idea?

I have no insider knowledge of the band.
We are talking about Neworder, here - the band who continually bailed out Factory and the Hacienda. I've seen enough and read enough to confidently expect them not to turn their backs on their crew. I also expect that whatever they're doing, they'd prefer to do so quietly and the Touring Technique t-shirts are just a nice way of inviting so minded fans to lend a hand, too. With respect to a possible crowdfunder, it ain't a bad idea but I'm happy for the band and their management to take the lead on that, should they so choose.

Gotta say, when I saw that Shug was donating his badges I thought: that's a generous gesture, but I wonder if he really needed to make it? The T shirt thing I guess is fair enough, (if it appeals to fans great, if it doesn't, dont feel too guilty) but I would also hope that NO are doing something more substantial than that. As I've commented before, NO grossed half a mill just from one gig at Ally Pally in 2018 (£50 x 10k tix). Imagine how much they've grossed from touring in the last five years (festivals pay well, as evidenced by the sums owed by Bestival to London Grammar and First Aid Kit when Bestival hit the skids). I'm going to assume NO are doing something else quietly. I suspect they can afford to bail out their tour guys more than most fans ever could. No wonder Hooky didn't want them using the name. :: ducks for cover::

It's not really our place to speculate what they are or are not doing. There's New Order as a business entity, and the members of New Order as individuals. Their wealth varies, as do obligation to their own families and interests. There are tax considerations. The income generated from touring far outweighs royalties from catalog sales - and they can't tour right now, so they're not making money, either. I'm sure they're doing what they can, quietly, but are also limited in what they can do without running afowl of unemployment benefits, insurance, contracts, etc. Edited by user 20 July 2020 08:16:17(UTC)

We also have to take into account the crew families, etc. By donating they could lose unemployment or contract benefits in the uk?? I wonder if theres someone we could simply ask just to know, but nothing in depth. Just a yes or no. But the crew might also be doing their own unemployment? UK work that way there?

I don't know how it works in the UK, but probably similar to here: If I work for New Order, and I'm currently receiving unemployment benefits, those go away once I receive some money from New Order, who are obligated to withhold taxes and report it.
