This seems plausible to me, both in being invited and turning him down.
The band were pretty big players in the dance scene and I can see Prince being intrigued by these four atypical musicians from the North West of England. In typical Prince fashion, him inviting them to Paisley Park (rather than him coming to see them) would make it seem that he was ‘doing them a favour’, rather than the other way around.
It also seems a very New Order thing (at least at that time) to flatly refuse anything vaguely ‘celeb’, especially if it was a ‘Prince summons you to worship him at his grand abode’ type thing. I can certainly see them saying ‘fuck off’. Especially Rob.

I have a vague memory of this being mentioned before, many years ago. Not sure where. Some 1980s music press, possibly.
Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true, of course, but still.
To be fair a lot of those interviews in the 80s were full of bullshit. The band seemed to take great pleasure in winding up journalists, changing stories every time they told them. I remember every article I read back in the day had something that made me go ‘that can’t be true, surely?’.
I guess it all added to the legend.
To be honest it wouldn’t surprise me if Barney told Hooky that Morricone had mentioned working with them, just to wind him up.
Knowing how much Bernard loves Morricone, I would imagine that there would be no way he’d have turned that opportunity down. No way, whatsoever.

I saw Bis once supporting someone at the Apollo (think it was ‘Garbage’). They were brilliant. Basically kids. Lots of energy, fun and a great sound.
Was just after the release of Kandy Pop. I bought the EP (Secret Vampire Soundtrack) on the strength of their performance and loved it.
Strangely enough, I saw Manda sitting on the steps of Vinyl Exchange the next day, on her own. Told her what a great gig it was and she seemed pleased.
Bought a couple of their other EPs, which were also good, then kind of forgot about them.
I should revisit, I think.
