Oh my. What a great tune. Just downloading now off iTunes - full and edited versions. Is it too much to suggest that 'full' implies 'album'? Got something new to review! 2020 just got a whole lot better...

Congrats! The teaser 14 seconds on social media are certainly a "tease".
Doesn't seem to have hit any of the European digital outlets.
Assuming generally available tomorrow?!

Ah yes, I guess it's already "tomorrow" down under.
The 14 secs sound kinda Academic-y.

Yes. It's from the Music Complete era, and I wouldn't expect a whole LP's worth of unreleased material ala Lost Sirens. What would they call it, Music Incomplete?

Was able to switch over to the NZ iTunes Store to hear the samples. It’s not labeled “full”, the short one is labeled “edit”, implying radio. The difference between 5 minutes vs. 3.5 minutes. Wish it had a proper B-side, but there you go. It reminds me of Twisted Tenderness-era Electronic. Edited by user 07 September 2020 12:16:51(UTC)

Come on everyone let’s be positive about the song once I read the negative reviews here then it stays with me and it is hard to enjoy the song. I am very excited to listen to the whole song. I went to the Australian iTunes Store and heard the 1:30 length of it and I really liked it. |

This doesn't add up. All this promo, exclusive first airplay on the largest UK radio station, teaser clips, all just for one little mp3?
Nah.
They've knocked some sort of album together during lockdown.

Sounds like a The Other Two reject with some of Bernards worse clunky lyrics (even by his standards).
I can see why they’ve been siting on it for 5 years.
Maybe it’s a grower. I hated Restless initially but ended up thinking it probably the bet track off MC.

Having been blown away by the vibrancy of the AOC instrumental writing session that popped up recently, I was struck by how un-blown-away I was by this. A pleasant pop song, but fairly forgettable, and has as much bite as a new-born calf. Or something. It does feel kinda "Radio 2" ish. But no need to wait for Zoe Ball to play it; it's already on streaming services.

I quite like it on first couple listens. Music is good though the lyrics a tiny bit clunky in first listen but optimistic in tone .Lyrics better in second listen. Reminds a little in places of Electronic but more their first album rather than Twisted Tenderness. Liking the guitar on it. There’s a bassy synth towards the end which I’m just starting to get into but then the track ends but maybe could have been extended and brought out a bit more in the track but maybe will be if there’s remixes to come at some point. Wasn’t there mention of Steve doing his own remix of it?
Overall I like the music and Bernard’s vocal and lyrics.

Really enjoying listening to the new song I know it is not a Classic New Order song but still great. Can’t wait to buy it on iTunes tomorrow. Very few bands that can still make this great music. Most of the 80 band are gone and given up |

Sounds essentially like a hybrid of Academic and Bad Lieutenant's Sink or Swim, but more synthy than either. I can't say I hear any bass guitar on the track.
I would say although the lyrics might not have the craft and weight of Academic, they are miles better than the wretched ones of Sink or Swim (and if you're averse to clunky lyrics, why are you still here?). My understanding is that while the music dates from the same time as Music Complete, the lyrics and vocals were completed more recently as Bernard decided that track was a worthwhile vehicle for his somewhat timely social commentary.
I echo what others have said about it being likely to grow on me, and that the track ends just as the synths threaten to get spicy. Definitely deserving of remixes.

Onboard with the Twisted Tenderness vibe.
Kind of a breezy, synthy, Bernard tune that's likely to grow. The outro was starting to go somewhere, I could cop a remix.
Have to admit, I'd assumed the early "Be a rebel, not a devil" call was in jest. And yet.. here we are.
No physical release? That CD promo market will soar.

Apparently. 😉 Called it I agree with the the ‘Twisted Tenderness’ sentiment. Kept waiting for the ‘tell a little lie’ line. There’s bit of it that reminds me of the second Electronic LP too, specifically the song ‘Stop If You’ve Got Love’. Haven’t heard that in close to a quarter of a Century, though, so might be imagining it. But, that being said, I quite like it and it’ll probably get better as I relisten to it. Like someone else has commented above, I wasn’t that bothered with ‘Restless’ the first time I heard it, but now think of it as excellent.

The other thing it kind of reminds me of is this jingle that Bernard apparently wrote for a German radio programme. Just that opening keyboard refrain, really:

£1.49on iTunes for a new Neworder single? Excellent.
A good solid tune. Positive, enjoyable and hopefully a 'grower'.
Certainly bits of Electronic and Academic reaching my ears - no bad thing.
Wonder if Steve's remix will appear in a week or two? (Hopefully it wasn't just the edit 'mix'.)

For those who care it's on Qobuz in 48 kHz/24 bit which is higher than the lossy bitrates iTunes push out. Same price as iTunes £1.49. Link. I haven't properly listened yet as I have some work calls to start the day but I plan to give it a caning over headphones at lunchtime.

Oh, a few commenters meant Twisted Tenderness the song, not the general album. Right. Yeah I get it now. Also a bit like some parts of Raise The Pressure. And a bit of Academic too. And a bit of that no.1 theme tune jingle too.
Some welcome social commentary in the lyrics from Bernard although I did find them slightly clunky on first listen.
As someone posted earlier, the song starts to get a bit more spicey but then suddenly it’s finished. Liking it though.
