Frankly this and MC are the direction the band should have taken post reformation. Hooky took them down the wrong path in the 00’s and is better off out of it

Brilliant news. Lockdown is looking like a good thing for NewOrder and in turn us. Hopefully at least an ep before next summer.
Good website the quietus, worth supporting financially

Yeah, kinda makes up for not having a job and risking death. Might be some pop songs. Edited by user 10 September 2020 11:57:20(UTC)

One quick listen to the Bad Lieutenant album or even Twisted Tenderness shows Bernard was settling comfortably into AOR/MOR git-rock without any influence from Hooky.

Raise the Pressure was middle-aged too. I think one of the reviews was called 'A couple of dads go down the disco.' As always, I'm gonna say Don't hold your breath. And as always, you're gonna say Stop being so fucking negative. And as always, you shouldn't've held your breath. These things take years.

Those 2 albums are some of his best work!

Strange! In the interview Gillian mentions Bernard finished the lyrics upon returning back to the UK after the covid shutdown and that they bounced ideas back and forth via tech due to social distancing.. But I was told earlier by someone who had somehow had priveledge of hearing the original Be a Rebel recording back a few years ago following the MC release and they said its the exact same lyrics and the music part is almost identical, give or take a couple added on sounds. Saw someone else said the same, too. There is no way to hear the original to compare flat-out, by the way. So why did she say he finished the lyrics during the Covid lockdown and that they did all this other stuff? Makes no sense. UNLESS...they are referring to the remixes by Bernard and Steve that have yet to be released? Maybe one or both contain alternative lyrics? That would be cool, actually. I guess it's possible that Gillian hadn't heard a version where Bernard had finished the lyrics.
The following could have happened:
a) they worked on it as an instrumental during the MC days. b) It it was then passed to Bernard for lyrics to be added. c) Your contact heard this version, which Gillian hadn't heard at the time. d) Gillian then heard the vocal version and assumed Bernard had written them (or finished writing them) recently.

Nope. The original that was heard was all recorded during the making of MC and contained the same exact lyrics and music except a couple added sounds. The lyrics were included then and are the exact same ones and in the same order. Everything is pretty much unchanged. It was directly following the MC release that it was heard and had been finished since the making of MC. Also would make what Steve said in that interview odd as well, as theres virtually no real music change in the song, either. Unless the remixes? Edited by user 11 September 2020 05:35:09(UTC)

It was 5 years ago. People forget. Does it really matter?
Also, if this person was “in the know”, and hasn’t heard it since 2015, how would THEY remember that everything was exactly the same?

Quote:In the interview Gillian mentions Bernard finished the lyrics upon returning back to the UK I just read this as a subtle distancing of themselves from the cringey schoolboy lyrics But it's all we got and it's quite a lot Don't get mad, don't feel sad There's the moon, it must be June

Bernard doesn't bother with lyrics if a track's not being released. And the theme of the song does ring of more current events...

I know someone who had heard it prior to release. They had told me some of the lyrics months ago, which were proved to be correct.
Whether the song had changed any in the few months since lockdown, I’m not sure. Next time I’m communicating with them, I’ll ask.

Though, if somewhat recent, it might be the one we know of now. The one I'm referring to is from like back when MC came out, though. Find out details from your source just in case.
