More a 'meh, spose I'll have to think about setting aside some cash to pay for this bloody thing' than unbridled excitement from me

Is there any significance to the Ally Pally show? It just seems like another ordinary tour date.

Would have been nice if they did something for their Miami residency, which was obviously a super special occasion.

It smells of desperation to release a live dvd 2.5 years after the event.

Having said that, I’ll probably buy it to relive a great gig.

I'm not sure I'd quite call it 'desperation'. I think it pays to keep your band's profile in the public consciousness.
They're presumably also not getting any money from touring this year.

Enough of LIVE stuff, we want some new stuff, they should release all these live albums when the band stops making new music and stops touring so the fans would want it even more. Like how so many of the old artists are coming out with LIVE albums they recorded 10 to 20 years ago and their fans will buy it.

I get it. Warners/Rhino has the back catalog, and Mute has everything from Music Complete going forward. That leaves very limited options.

For a band whose live shows were often unreliable during their peak, I'm happy to have these.

Depeche Mode has released a live DVD after every tour since 2002. The Cure hasn't released anything but live albums for 12 years. New Order is now a legacy act who left us with one brilliant final album. Frankly, I don't expect anything else from them.

I don't follow DM but I know the Cure put enough variation and length into their shows to make gigs (and therefore live albums) at least a slightly interesting proposition. Apart from the MiF shows (which show that they can actually play deeper cuts if they can be bothered) these New Order live releases (Troxy, Bestival NOMC15) are basically 50% or more the same set with a few variations

You assume Be A Rebel wasn't music?
(Full disclosure: I'm pretty wishy washy on the track)

I'm also wishy washy on it.

A leftover, one-off track which was only finished to promote a tour that didn't happen isn't exactly making new music.

I'm pretty sure i read somewhere a while ago that the ally pally gig was filmed by the same bloke who directed decades

And the plan was to release ally pally and a longer cut of decades with the entire turin (i think) set

That Barney guy is holding them back. If they got rid of him, I'm sure they could pump albums out every other year or so.

Yes, they should get rid of him and get Mark Reeder, better dressed and could apply some spezialdisziplin. Jez Kerr (ACR) could be an option too. Good at songwriting, singing with his eyes closed and cowbell.

As I said before, no one forces you to buy anything. Being a completist made sense in the Factory period, but with so many shitty London rereleases and the free-for-all of Youtube, is it still worthwhile?
