I've never been 100% sure on whether Bernard recorded any new vocals for the song around the time. There were mixes that used the original '83 vocals, mixes that used the '87 vocals and ones that combined the two. But I also think that there were some some mixes where it sounded like there were even newer vocals on them. I can't remember which ones now.
If anyone knows... Many of the 2002 mixes used Bernard's original 1983 vocals. On the CD single and Retro edits of the Koma & Bones mix, newly recorded vocals were added by Bernard. The Koma & Bones remix included in the 12 x 12 set of twelve inch remixes released to support the 'Singles' compilation also added the new vocal. On the CD single, all but the 'Asto Dazed' edit featured the newly recorded vocals. All the pre-release promo 12 inches features the original vocals, but the Larry Tees and Outputs mixes had the new vocals added on the final 12 inch releases. All the different releases and versions and which vocal they feature are listed at https://www.niagara.edu/neworder/singles/confusion2k2.htmlThe 1987 vocal was not used in any of the 2002 remixes. In fact, the 1987 'Confusion' is in a completely different key (A flat minor, as opposed to the original's D minor). I've read a few times Barney didn't like his original 1983 vocal - apparently he had a cold the day they were recorded - so guess he intervened and provided a new vocal track in time for the official release..? Glad he did too, as his original '83 vocals always were pretty ropey. Revisiting the older subject matter in this thread, whilst shuffling my music library this week, I actually found a 'Confusion' remix that does use the 1987 re-recording vocals: the Pump Panel Floatation mix - it was on the flip side of Pump Panel's Reconstruction Mix and its accompanying (now very hard to find and expensive) CD single. This was the single released under the remixer's artist name of Pump Panel, rather than New Order (similar to The Advent's 'Everything's Gone Green' remixes). I actually prefer the Floatation Mix to the more commonly known Reconstruction Remix, as it does at least feature Barney's vocals - I find the Reconstruction Mix too long and dull.

Yeah, Pump Panel is a clichéd assault and sadly typical of what London were doing In The Name Of Cash back then. Cool though cos I bought that single so hopefully my folks ain't thrown it out.

Hey mate, my post was pure speculation, except Ick, which I read on Denis' site. I wouldn't put it out as true, in particular, ahem, Gillian's G String. Yeah, I remember 'Madonna', but not which one - maybe Hellbent. Hooky used the name Aleph (STYT) in an interview about bringing back old tracks for the Sirens tour. There was also Atmosphere / Chance and Decades / Cross of Iron. Guts might've been an advance on one of their first songs, Gutz for Garterz. Revenge and Monaco went through a few title changes too: http://forums.neworderon...ts&m=29719#post29719 Possibly not helpful at all reMadonna, but the producer of GIAUE had produced Madonna's Ray of Light - and they share the same sound (a boom/explosion effect)

Yeah I posted this in "what are you listening to now" about a year or so ago. It was the first time I had heard it, as I was previously only familiar with PP's Reconstruction on Rest Of... Floatation mix

I've had both CDs on heavy rotation ever since and boy, do they kick some serious tush. With the triple whammy of Substance, Technique and Electronic, I remember why I used to be so into them. Almost as good as the Spice Girls... But nothing ever lasts forever. And it's the same for you, I'm sure. Edited by user 14 November 2021 00:54:22(UTC)

I've heard about the Internet. Could be big. It's a bit like Victoria Beckham selling her snot. Slim pickings. Fucking Hell, 400 Euro for a CD SINGLE that came out years ago and even then it was crap? That's collectionists for you. Thanks for the heads up, as the two-dicked man said to my mother. 17.25 - 17.41 https://www.youtube.com/...4o6cnWoYhQ06pN6hU5yboVABEdited by user 14 November 2021 01:01:07(UTC)
