Giving new Daniel Avery album Ultra Truth a whirl. Released today. Some of it's alright. That's my review right there. Some of it's alright.

PJ Harvey- Let England Shake . Her album from back in 2011. Just overwhelmingly brilliant. Bloody hell. What a talent. True fucking art. And its got tunes, too. Edited by user 13 November 2022 11:37:13(UTC)

New Weyes Blood album out today. On first listen i'm not sure it's in the same league as her utterly fantastic Titanic Rising album form 2019 but her dancing in a new vid is just beautiful while the cartoon phone symbolises how our addiction to them is eating our souls. I guess?

Well, after a month of football it all comes down to the big one tomorrow, France v Argentina. I feel it's going to be heartbreak for Lionel Messi. France just know how to win. I'm going for France 3 Argentina 2 in 90 minutes. As the late great Lee Scratch Perry sang, you got to kick the ball, you got to win the game, oof!

^ Yep, RIP Terry Hall.A great artist. Those first 2 albums by The Specials were seared into my brain at the age of 11-12 as my brother had bought both. They were on constantly in our house in the late 70s / early 80s. A very sad loss.
RIP Martin Duffy. I don't think i'd realised and apprecciated before how much he shaped and contributed to Primal Scream's sound. I think Channel 4 news slipped up last night by briefly showing a photo of Andrew Innes instead of Martin Duffy but the pic was only up for a second and maybe it was meant to portray Martin on keyboards behind?

Lush. Recieved Miki Berenyi's autobiography 'Fingers Crossed' for christmas. A few chapters in, her (very beautiful) Japanese mother appeared in You Only Live Twice and is also the girl in the title sequence of the Bond classic, wow. Apparently, later in the book she rips apart the whole Britpop scene of the 90s and exposes it for the crap it was. So, looking forward to reading that. Could be juicy.

Heard this on Tom "Peel" Ravenscroft's Ravers Hour recently. Brand new track. Which artists/records does this sound like? I'll start with: Kraftwerk and NO.

I really can't hear Blue Monday and The Robots in that intro But yeah, joking aside, i can alsp hear a generic hip hop or funky drummer beat and also Altern8.

Been revisiting this song again recently. One of Cocteau Twins' finest. Nostalgic memories from teenage 80s days. The drum (machine) beat always intrigued me. It's very hard to make sense of but in a good way. It's very freeform. Beautiful and heavenly vocal from Liz, a kind of rolling infectious bass by Simon Raymonde and a haunting choral keyboard effect. Robin Guthrie's guitar is essential but not intrusive. The cat is the star of the vid.

"Press your space face close to mine, love Freak out in a moonage daydream, oh yeah" Oh that's where Sub Sub got their song title from - albeit their "full of stars" sample was from 2001, A Space Oddyssey - which itself may have influenced Bowie. Also does the intro guitar remind anyone of anything? Just what is it that you want to do?
EDIT: Come to think of it, I remember seeing Doves at London's Lovebox festival in 2009. Jimi Goodwin responded to someone in the crowd saying, "oh you want to hear Spayce Fayce?" in a mockney accent (they didn't play the track). At the time I thought he was just doing a London-ish accent because they were a Manchester band playing in London, but in retrospect I think he was doing a Bowie impersonation. Catching up 2 years later on Future Sound Of London's 2021 remixes of We Have Explosive. Cracking beats , glitchy shit.

The War On Drugs. Watched on tv Sunday evening their Glastonbury set. Blown away. Was a bit drunk but their set was pretty bloody transcendent.

The song Enough is pretty cool They've done a whole album together? I wouldn't have seen that one coming. Your track Enough is on YT if you want to post it. It's not just singles that end up on YT these days. Entire albums do. In other news, here's a brand new single whose intro seems to borrow (but maybe not sample) from Kraftwerk's Uranium. Or from NO's BM if you prefer. Chemical Brothers - Skipping Like A Stone

Or does anyone even look at the listening thread now, apart from your good self, sir and Rocket Mick to leave a thanks? Why do i even bother posting a comment about what i'm listening to? God knows. Gave that new Chems track a listen. Not much for me, sad to say. I'm still undecided on if to go to their gig at Birmingham Gensing arena or whatever the sponsors name for it is these days, 3rd Nov. I should really, it's only 20 minutes on the train from me.Caught their Birmingham NIA gig in Nov 2019, a great gig

Always thought The Horrors were a bit shite apart from a few good songs, this one wasn't bad though and probably this only excels with the Paul Epworth production to make it it chart friendly.Faras Badwan had a fairly weak and reedy vocal but some of the songs do work. The video was fairly effective
