To honour the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest records of all time, I thought I'd upload this Swedish documentary.

It's excellent and I learned plenty from it when I saw it a few years ago.
It doesn't seem to be online anymore, so thought I'd upload it for others to watch and enjoy.

Here ya go:

https://we.tl/t-C7TXaoJMsP

Good for 7 days, folks. If anyone comes to this late, PM me here, or message me on my YouTube channel (perspexorange) for those of you who can't register here (what's up with that, anyway? Has Nic closed membership?).

PS For those who want it, I've managed to record a capture of todays's interview, which I've added as a bonus.
Sadly, the programme I normally use to download BBC Sounds/iPlayer won't download this.
So I had to use a shitty Chrome extension to screen grab it, hence the fairly awful recording.
If anyone can rip a better version, please can you let me have a copy.

BBC Sounds interview is here, around the 1h26m mark:

Looks like the New Order Store are getting in on the action too.

Just got an email directing me to BM merchandise.

Are these new, or are they ones that were being offered earlier in the year?
Most of these look great. Very tempted by black T-Shirt, black hoodie and that pin badge.

Very well done merch, I’ve definitely never seen the hoodie before. Not going to purchase though got so many new order tees. So many in fact that my good wife is making me a quilt from new order tees!

Sorry, but I find all of the "Blue Monday" merchandise to be disgraceful. The lithograph uses the colour wheel from "Power Corruption & Lies." Yes, I realize it's somewhat related release, but it's just kind of wrong that they're displaying the back cover of FACT 75 on a "Blue Monday" print. Then the t-shirt has the wrong catalog number - it was FAC 73, not FACT 73. The "FACT" catalogue number was reserved for albums.

Don't they have someone who can better curate their legacy?

perspex, i use OBS Studio for video and audio capture

Not sure if you can download it for free.I bought a Mypin capture gadget a few years ago for transferring old VHS or stuff from my tv box to laptop and it either came with a software installation CD for the OBS or it directed me to where i can download it from, can't quite recall now. It's a great programme, anyway.

I noticed that PCL wheel - on two T-shirts (though I would potentially wear the Tee as a PCL Tee). I hadn't noticed the catalogue number. I might have looked closer if I was going to buy.

The tweet I embedded in the Social Media thread - can you still see it embedded? I can't. Yet the tweet is still on NOs twitter. Confused.

I wonder if it embeds here.

EDIT: I think they re-did the tweet

It's mad that they have done a WHITE Blue Monday shirt when it's so obviously crying out for a black on, you know like the record sleeve...

I ended up making my own black one based on the sleeve design and it looks great!

No more promotion regarding the CALM charity Blue Monday shirts that have yet to ship. It's almost as if they realized they were wasting an opportunity to cash in...

More 40th anniversary stuff. These tweet embeds may take a minute to appear.

Briefly at the very start of Colin Murray's show, and then at 1hr,14 to 1hr,29. It's fine until Murray clearly demonstrates that he doesn't understand the various influences on the track (Donna Summer etc). He should have had one of us lot on to explain it. Some Temptation and LWTUA gets played too.

interview with Michael Johnson

and while we're doing BM tweets (no this isn't me)...

It looks like someone in band's camp was paying attention. The mock-up at the New Order store now correctly shows FAC 73 on the "Blue Monday" 40th anniversary t-shirt.

This was also posted at The Guardian by their music editor Alexis Petridis on 7 March.

Isn't it cool that FAC 73 was released on 07/03? Wink

A few people on social media commented on the error. A friend of mine told me that he went so far as to direct message the band on Instagram about it. My guess is that someone took it to heart and notified Howard Wakefield or whoever it was that designed the new shirt.

I did on Twitter. But they're sticking with the Power, Corruption & Lies design for the shirts and lithograph.

Following on from the "spotting" post about the Gary Davies show featuring a "Mastermix" of NO singles from the 80's. This upcoming BBC sounds show seems to celebrate BM more than the Gary Davies show does. And it may be of interest here because ithe show is about 12" singles. And what NO fan doesn't like a 12" single?

The Story of the 12” Single with Jo Whiley

Quote:
Released On: 21 Mar 2023
Available for 29 days

Presented by Jo Whiley, March 2023 marks 40 years since the original release of New Order's seminal single Blue Monday.

From a low-key start, it went on to be revered, and made its way into the history books as it became the biggest selling 12" single of all time.

Taking this record and its anniversary as a starting point, Jo weaves through the history of the 12" single format, with insights from her BBC Radio colleagues Steve Lamacq, Nemone and DJ Spoony, and archive material from people involved in the making of Blue Monday, including the members of New Order.

EDIT: Oh you don't have to wait til the 21st, you can hit play on it now.
