I know there are threads for the UK tour and the Paris show, but the O2 show seemed a bit pricey and I'm not that keen on the place, so I'm going to the Ziggo Dome show in Amsterdam instead (a lot cheaper, the standing ticket worked out at about £53): its not exactly in the centre of town but its next to the Ajax Arena and AFAS Live, both of which I've been to so I sort of know the area and how to get there.

Now to wait and see who the support act is, not bothered if its Confidence Man for these European shows too.

Each gig is deserving of its own thread.

Mark Reeder opening on Saturday, so I'm assuming Confidence Man are only playing the UK and Irish dates? Not particularly bothered about missing them tbh, but I thought they could have either found a band to tour Europe with them or find a local act to open for them?

On the eve of the opening night of the tour, I was just musing on how fitting it would be if this UK/Euro tour turned out to be a Substance setlist, bearing in mind the recent reissue. How fantastic to think they've been preparing for this in secret to unleash it on an audience who are expecting the usual track choice.

Taking the A-sides, it's only 4 songs that haven't been played in the recent past (though, correct me if I'm wrong) - EGG, Confusion, TLU and State. But what a difference those 4 songs would make to any set. Oh, and why not throw in some B-sides as the encores instead of the standard JD songs.

Come on New Order, how hard can it be to programme and rehearse those. (OK, fully prepared for someone to tell me it is actually difficult...)

They played both "Thieves Like Us" and "Lonesome Tonight" at the Sydney Opera House in 2016, but neither became setlist staples.

Thanks Andy, I'd forgotten about Sydney. So just need to get Roger Lyons in to sort out the others and we're away

That setlist: Setlist.fm

I really thought these special gigs with the Australia Chamber Orchestra would be filmed or at least recorded for release like the + Liam Gillick ones...

20 songs tonight versus the last gig's 19. "Crystal", "Close Range", "Plastic" and "Decades" swapped in for "Waiting for the Sirens' Call", "1963" and "Atmosphere"

Unfortunately, "Shake it Up" is still in. But hey, 20 tracks!

I'd forgotten about Close Range - one of the better ones off of Get Ready. As long as they don't go near Rock The Shack we're all good

ALSO

When was the last time they swapped in FOUR songs at the next gig on a tour? Usually on tour they seem to swap one or two per night?

So, this show was...OK. Not the best New Order show I've been to but not the worst either. Mark Reeders DJ set was pretty lowkey, a few NO remixes thrown in with some standard trance that no one seemed to be getting too excited about. The crowd was bigger than I was expecting and seemed well behaved rather than any mad jumping about going on (but looking at the people in the bar next to the entrance prior to going in, they seem to attract a more mature audience these days but without releasing any new material, they're becoming a Mojo type of band with their followers).

The setlist was pretty average, and I don't know why they're now playing Shake It Up every night: Bernard introduced it with something like 'we played this song for the first time live in Copenhagen the other night, and it seemed to go down well so here it is again' but I haven't spoken to anyone who thinks its good Confused I left when the encore started, thinking it was going to be Atmosphere again and not realising we would get three songs for an encore but I'm not bothered about missing JD songs, the Ziggo Dome is in the arse end of Amsterdam and I was just happy to have seen the main set and got out of there before the crowds piled into the train station.
