I suppose I could put this in Music For Pleasure but then I'd knock Andy's Bernard news off the front page. Also Hooky talks a lot about NO and JD. I think this interview was done in English but conducted & transcribed by an interviewer whose first language is French. Quote:Republic then went from being my most hated LP to my most loved. I didn’t think I’d like it any more than Technique, because Technique has always represented New Order at the top for me Suissimo

But when he spouts stuff like this: "You see, most of the songs on Technique we never played live. All the songs from Republic, we didn’t play live, so to have them back in the setlist was absolutely great." I start to wonder if his dementia comment was in jest. By my count, more than half of Republic and all of Technique had been performed live while he was with New Order.

I wasn’t talking about never ever played I was referring to the later years when he wouldn’t play any of them and we were stuck playing the same 15 songs every night. |

To hear republic tracks by new order, from memory, you’d have to have lived in USA unless you attended Reading 93. I can’t remember any other NO shows in England after the release of Republic, I may be wrong. After they reformed in 98 I think I’ve only ever heard Regret, world, ruined in a day (from 2001 GR Tour) and music only for Times change (MiF)

Hey Hooky, great to hear from you. Hard to fathom Republic now being your favourite (was that a translation thing?) but it's genuinely always been one of mine. I know you're coming to do Substancex2 again next year, but is the Technique / Republic set gonna get a run in Australia?

Peter Hook will always be New Orders main guy. Without him it just isn't worth bothering. I tried to like New Order since but I'm too old to bullshit anymore.

I was at their Mountain View and Hollywood gigs in 1993.
