I know New Order (and lots of other bands) have replaced old video uploads on YouTube with high-def upgrades. To date, the only Blu-ray New Order has released is in the Education Entertainment Recreation box. I would love to have an upgrade to Substance 1989/A Collection with all the videos Ceremony through Be A Rebel in high definition, but I can't think of any bands who've released video collections in the past ten years. Do you think there's a chance, or do bands want to push everyone to streaming, even though the revenue numbers are low?

Depeche Mode released their 'Video Singles Collection', back in 2016, which had about 60 or so music videos.
Although Blu-Rays were around back then, they only released on DVD I think.

I guess it might have been as some videos weren't HD.
Also, I guess BD is more expensive and very few people buy them these days, anyway. Probably why a lot of bands don't bother (that and the fact that videos are readily available on YouTube).

Saying that, I'd gladly buy an updated Substance 1989 or Item/A Collection on BD.

To be fair, PSBs are really flying the flag for physical media.

I love the way they still release CD singles etc.

Mute really likes physical media for their artists. I'm loving the white label series of 12" singles for Depeche Mode's Memento Mori.

I could see Mute working with Warners/Rhino to compile a definitive video collection.

For it to be definitive, I'd love for a release to contain a few rarities, perhaps as 'bonus tracks' (much like the Patti/Gina Birch/Baywatch videos were on the 'Collection' DVD).

For instance:

Blue Monday - original 1983 video, made by Steve;
Everything's Gone Green - video that Shamberg commissioned alongside Ceremony & Temptation;
True Faith - alternate video which has some extra clips of dancers plus, even better, additional live footage;
World - S. Hauger 'live' version;
True Faith-94 - video which includes clips of other NO videos;
True Faith-94 - Perfecto Mix video, with all the extra 'dancers' clips;
Blue Monday-95 - two different versions; one an edit, one full-length;

Anything else?
Maybe those various 'Turn' videos (were they official?)

I also have something on my hard drive which is meant to be Round&Round-94, but seems pretty much identical to the standard video.
There's also a version of the standard World video with the Perfecto mix overlaid on it.
Probably wouldn't be much point including those two if, indeed, a compilation was released.

Extras on A Collection:

USA/Patty version of Round & Round
Regret filmed on the beach with Baywatch
An edit of Crystal with the club remix instead of the single/album version

I'd also like to see Everything's Gone Green added.

I think the videos from Music Complete are really good, so those are what I'd most want included.

'Pie in the sky', I know, but I'd also quite like videos to be made for TLU, Murder & Sub-Culture.

Another possible extra in our 'pipe dream' BD could be the Video 5-8-6 footage, bits of which were on the 'Factory Video' VHS and as an Easter egg on one of the PC&L DVDs.

Was there a video for the 8 minute Hardfloor version, or are you suggesting re-editing the shorter video to make it long?

Good point. They've never been available for us to own.
But you can buy NO Christmas decorations, travel bags, socks, wallets, hoodies, bucket hats, water bottles, jogging bottoms and even a WIM football.

Not so far fetched considering the "Age of Consent" video that appeared a few years ago.

Perhaps it could be the visual component of a Definitive(/updated) Edition of the Singles collection in the future, once all the albums have been covered. Not sure the Warners and Mute material would be issued on the same release though...

Yep - there were two.
The first standard video was basically the normal 1987 video, but it had various clips of other New Order videos interspersed within it. I think it was on the '? (best of)' VHS which, weirdly, doesn't appear to be on Discogs.

The second was one done specifically for the Perfecto Mix of the song and featured different clips of the dancers. I remember seeing it one night after getting in pissed from the pub. Took me almost 30 years to find a copy and convince myself I didn't imagine it in my drunken haze.

Yep - there was a video for both the short and long versions of the Hardfloor remix.

Just in case anyone is interested, I've uploaded a grab bag of the rare videos (live for one week only). I'm having trouble posting the link within this post as it keeps rejecting it as spam. Will try to post it in a separate post.

I'm pretty sure that the majority are on YouTube/Daily Motion/other internet sites etc (which is probably where I got them from). Just nice to have in one place.

None of the standard videos are included, as I don't want to promote piracy. Besides, you can freely access all of these on the band's YouTube page anyway.
Additionally, as some are in poor condition, posting briefly here wouldn't negate the need to have these officially compiled.

Would definitely be good to get some of these in good quality (i.e. released on BD, not pulled from MTV broadcasts etc.).

Included (among several others) in the batch of 36 videos are:

Original Blue Monday video
The alternate True Faith videos mentioned above, along with the True Faith interstitials used on the 'best of' video
The World variants
The Blue Monday-95 Hardfloor variants
The Duvet Brothers unofficial BM video
A rare unofficial French version of Love Will Tear Us Apart that was broadcast on 'Les Enfants Du Rock - Haute Tension' back in 1984
Some Malcom Whitehead videos he did for Joy Division songs
A Wire video and a Tom Watts video that both feature NO band members
A rare version of the Getting Away With It video that features unused Chris Marker footage

Most of them are just curios really. Nothing stellar; just interesting to see once.

Pretty sure i don't watch music videos as much as i once did. Long gone are the days of getting in drunk from a Saturday night out and skipping through the TV music channels. I mean MTV seemingly stopped playing music videos many years ago in favour of dross like reality shows didn't they? I do enjoy watching a music video though still from time to time if it's truly jaw dropping like that Jamie XX one for Oh My Gosh some years ago.

Article recently about the decline of the art of the music video Is The Music Video Dying?

Oh, completely. But, I'm likely to put on a video compilation or concert film in the background while I work. I like music I'm familiar with so I don't have to pay too much attention.

In fact, I mostly listen to music on YT for a long time now. Uh oh
