There are also some positive comments under that story in the post on Slicing Up Eyeballs.

I think that what Peter Hook is proposing to do here is risky but I for one hope it doesn't turn out badly for him..

As Movement is already quite Joy Division-esque, I don't think The Light will have much difficulty pulling it off especially as they've done a couple of the tracks live already. In fairness I imagine The Light could play a song like Dreams Never End miles better than the current line-up of New Order ever could. On the other hand, PC&L will be interesting, they could play the music perfectly but if the vocals aren't right... can't really see Hooky ooo-ooo-oooo-ing through the end of Age of Consent. Is someone else stepping up to the microphone for the higher vocal songs? Pottsy perhaps?

In all honesty, I'm still a bit uncomfortable about the whole relentless nostalgia thing but will probably go to see them do New Order material at least once just as I saw UP at least once before forming an opinion. I would rather hear some new material though and would happily pay for it. For those decrying Hooky for what he's doing, I'd even agree with you up to a point but it's getting a bit tiresome reading the same rants time and again. Those same rants probably had a point when he started doing this two years ago but now just seem a bit redundant.

Don't think an Internet message board's gonna change his mind at this late stage.

In the main I agree but when he starts playing Temptation, the whole thing is plain wrong. Its a New Order anthem being played on the current tour by 3 of the original musicians.

As I said before no issue with the JD or movement but Temptation is a step to far in my opinion. What he hoping to gain or is it just to piss his ex band member off.

At the beginning of all this I hoped they could put everything aside and get the whole team back together but HE seems to want to drive a bigger wedge between them.

Its clear from the start he thought NO would fail without him, however it hasn't!

At the end of the day I think a lot of this is just getting personal now and I'm not gonna get into an argument with anybody. The bottom line is that yes some people aren't into the things we're doing, but yes some people are... Just as you have some people that like 'NewOrderNow' and some people that don't... Different strokes for different folks and that's what makes the world a wonderful place. If we were all the same then it would be a pretty boring place wouldn't it. Smile

If you guys were doing the 'Best of Hooky' - some NO / JD tracks in which his performance was pivotal, plus the highlights from Revenge, Monaco and even Freebass - I would agree with you. Would be a boon for his credibility and all jokes about Freebass aside, you'd be able to put together a more than decent set. Man, charity or no, this is heading towards Beach Boys Family and Friends levels of discomfort...

I know the comment on the link on the first post was from a cut and paste job, but the whole “go on to New Order and annoy Bernard even more.” shtick is sounding more than a bit sad - is Bernard annoyed that him and the rest of New Order are doing shows around the world while Hooky is playing "very special venues that have been hand picked" i.e. places in the UK that they can only expect to sell a few hundred tickets to punters?

I'm not 100% up on the royalty rights to playing songs live that other people have written, but will Bernard (and Stephen, and Gillian) also be annoyed at getting paid for Peter and The Light performing the songs that they have co-written live?

Don't get me wrong, I've met Peter and found him perfectly decent but this whole thing about getting one up on Bernard is starting to become a bit desperate, he's full of his legal action shtick when New Order start touring, but how would he feel if they decided to do the same to him touring Movement and PCL?

Bollocks Jack, your petty New Order Now is boring - its New Order without Peter Hook and they are pulling big crowds wherever they play. And the some people do like New Order and don't is 90% in favour which has shocked Peter. People don't forget and his initial comments re its like Queen without Freddie are not forgotten and have made him look pretty silly.

Like everyone else I had a lot of time and respect and I too have met Peter, but he has fucked me and a lot of other people off with his antics and has probably robbed us all of seeing the original New Order including Gillian ever again.

I was lucky enough to see JD twice - so I will not come and see a light show as I have seen the original just like I won't come and see you wreck Temptation as again I have seen the original and the most recent gigs without the original bass player.

In those cases, Jason either a) hadn't left the band or b) the singer couldn't sing due to injury or c) he guested amicably with the band after leaving. Also Jason sang 1-2 songs per show to rest James voice as Metallica sets were often over 3 hours. Jason didn't take off and launch his own rival tours a couple of years after quitting. It's a false equivalence.

It is interesting that none of the points raised or criticism levelled is actually tackled. I understand the whole "I' don't wanna argue" position. But when a LOT of people think this is a, to put it politely, unwise idea, it might be that a) they're right and b) the mood of the public isn't with you. Also, I'm not sure these performances can logically be defended as artistically valid. I'm sure many of the people who go to the gigs will have a great time. But to me, that's like fucking your ex. It may feel good. But it's not necessarily right.

Then again, some things do feel great that aren't necessarily wise. As I have said many times before, write/release/tour new music and I'll be there supporting it. Become a tribute act to yourself and I won't. There seems to be a huge blind spot around Camp Hooky regarding how other people interpret these shows and how this tarnishes the Hook brand. JD I understood : there is no JD. NO albums? There's already one New Order. This is more like "Robbie Williams Sings Take That & Party". Many people are joking that Hook will be touring Electronic, The Other Two, or Bad Lieutenant.

No one owns these songs : not Hooky, Barney, or anyone. They belong to us as well. These songs are our memories : not just yours. These songs are part of our lives as well. And we care what happens to them.

RE Jason Newsted singing Metallica... relax man I was only being a bit frivolous..!! Eek Jeez.

Look, of course everyone's entitled to a say and an opinion about all of this and if that's negative then that's fine, the vibe on here is overwhelmingly negative in which case I don't see any point in me being here and getting drawn into pointless arguments... As I'm obviously going to be defending my own father to the hilt... which I hope people would understand... So it's just daft. The people that are interested in what we do know where they can find us on Facebook etc and I hope those people do enjoy the shows if they come down, as I've seen a few on here are thinking of doing. The rest of the band are fantastic players who will put everything into making it sound good. I won't be posting on here again, cheers.

May I make a minor correction? The New Order Now name would refer to their website, or their Twitter account name @newordernow, and not their band name.
Apologies if you disagree, but I know I'm not the only one who knows the band name to be 'New Order'---- and not 'New Order Now', or even 'New Odour' as I've heard a certain other person say. Please feel free to disagree with the band name, after all, I guess I'm just someone behind a keyboard. Read

In all seriousness, now that he's announced his intention to play all the albums before he gets too old to do it...

... when are the Republic shows pencilled in for? Seriously, I'm not taking the piss, it is a New Order album after all.

I have a hard time imagining The Light doing renditions of "World" or "Liar". Or maybe it'll just be the "classic" Factory era LPs?

Just genuinely wondering how playing all of New Order's albums is gonna work in practical terms.

You put it out there, you cannot expect everyone to provide an unending light of optimism.

The only reason we post here is because we care. I think, in my opinion, its more the unapologetic and brazen approach of fuck it, we don't care what you think, we're doing this anyway which is alienating key parts of the fanbase.

No one is saying they want Hooky to fall flat on his face and play to empty rooms. Every decision a musician makes, the fans will have an opinion on. Disagreeing with the artist is not always negativity. We will not be quiet or apologise for our opinions so as not to offend other people.

I am quite surprised though, if Camp Hooky, weren't self-aware enough to expect some people to think touring the old New Order albums might not be controversial. It was never my attention to drive Jack away. But one of the things I am proud of here is that it isn't a obsequious love in of ceaseless praise.

All joking aside, I wouldn't mind hearing Hooky & The Light having a go at the Electronic albums, as it's not like Bernard & Johnny are ever going to do it! The first Electronic album was really good & it would be really interesting to hear Hooky do songs like "Get The Message" & "Tighten Up" etc. Also, their 3rd album, "Twisted Tenderness" was less electronic & more guitar-based, so this would be right up Hooky's street.

Not so sure about the Other Two albums though!...
