It's not released until 27th on iTunes. I might buy it then. I leafed through it in Waterstones yesterday. It was reduced by £5 and every page I looked at had a story about urine. I only looked at about three pages though. Strangely, as I was walking back to the car, Hooky drove past me. He never let on. Edited by user 23 September 2012 14:15:51(UTC)

S'alright, not a bad read. Been off work sick all week so occupied some time reading through it. Though with a fuzzy head full of cold not everything i read i digested properly . I seem to enjoy reading about Joy Division a lot more than actually listening to them these days. Rarely stick their tunes on. What comes across a lot in the book is how rough it was for the band those years JD were around , freezing cold dressing rooms and venues, being shit on and messed around by headline acts at gigs and promoters not interested, no money, etc etc. Some amusing tales but i didn't find the story about putting mice on Buzzcocks' tour bus that interesting, bit of a mild anecdote that one, i thought. Will be a lot more interested to read Hook's inside New Order book, but i guess that's gonna be a few years wait Edited by user 05 October 2012 06:03:37(UTC)

Yeah or like a jealous spurned lover's letter to their ex, expressing their rage, the words and letters get more and more messy and by the end are an indecipherable scribble. Well in the end i did feel driven to look up a few JD tunes on Spotify and found a mix of LWTUA i've never heard, the Love Will Tear Us Apart (Martin Hannett Sessions) version. Spotify states this version surfaced in 2011? Was probably aware of it at the time but somehow never heard it. Yeah, it's ok, quite liked it. Hook's bass is more melodic to my ears on that version and Steve's drumming has a softer feel and sound. Not so keen on the fade out as opposed to the 2 versions i'm familiar with. Also a Martin Hannett Sessions version of Leaders Of Men on there i'd never heard. Oh and i now appear to be listening to yet another version of LWTUA. Also a Martin Hannett Sessions version of Leaders Of Men on there i'd never heard. Thought his comments on certain tracks were quite eye-opening. Like 'Candidate', cos he said Hannett made them write a couple of extra songs in the studio cos he didn't think they had enough. And none of them really knew how to 'write' a song, they just jammed until something fell into shape. So, for Hooky, he just hears another jam session with a few of Ian's lyrics thrown over the top, and not a finished tune as such, whenever he hears 'Candidate' or (was it?) 'From Safety To Where?' (I know it was a track that never made the album).

As I recall Hooky described Bernards guitar playing on Candidate as very "economical", seemingly Bernard didn't like the track and I think the same applied to From Safety To Where...

Just listening to some of the live JD stuff, Curtis really was as great a vocalist live as on any recorded stuff, think i'd tended to forget that. Must have been pretty mesmerising watching him live ,alas i was too young to be even aware of Joy Division in 1978-80. Wasn't aware of them til about 1983. Though i distinctly remember the Britain they existed in in the late 70s and which was captured in the music and image, all that decay and barren wastelands.
