I'm really happy I don't have to chase the I've Got a Feeling RSD 12" just for the instrumental.

From Pottsy on Facebook. Not a fan of digipaks but this one is looking pretty cool:

While it would have been nice to see an expanded double CD version of MFP, I'll be controversial and say that album didn't particularly need one. The various CD editions of the album, as well as the CD singles are all readily available on the second hand market, and the sound on them didn't really need remastering. I can see why they focussed on a vinyl repress as the original double LP was always scarce to find, but it would have been nice to see them release the expanded version to digital and streaming. At the moment, I think it's just the US version (w/ Under The Stars) and while the singles were on Qobuz for a bit, they promptly vanished. Maybe they will reappear at some point.

These reissues for the second album look superb, and I have pre-ordered the lot from Resident (Obrigado, Mr Disco!)

I remember trying to buy a copy of the Papillon release of the album 25 years ago and it was a pain in the arse. It was as if it had been abandoned before it even had a chance (which it had been). New Order had reformed and allegedly nobody needed the side projects any more. Electronic's Twisted Tenderness fared slightly better, but Other Two's Super Highways also suffered a similar fate to "Monaco". All a massive shame as I have a lot of time for those 3 side project albums and in my humble opinion, they all feature stronger moments than bits of the mother ship's Get Ready.

Regarding the double CD content, always a fan of instrumentals so they'll do nicely. If the "Original Air Mix" of It's A Boy is the one I think it is then fans of that song are in for a treat, particularly the long intro and some memorable "rock out/wah wah" guitar work from Pottsy. For me, it blew away the mix they put on the finished LP, which had some serious gloss applied to it.

The See Saw mixes errr, yeah... very much of their time. Their presence will make completists happy.

All in all, "I used to think that the day would never come" etc. so this is great news.

I guess I was one of those people who didn't need it! I had played the bejesus out of my (cassette!) copy of MFP commuting to work, but I never got the 2nd album, cos I just never saw it. I didn't have internet back then, and Discogs wasn't a thing (well it had just started), so it just passed me by.

What's the deal with Discogs listings for the original CD mostly showing as "partially mixed"? Not just the promo CD.
EDIT: Oh it's just occurred to me that they mean like a DJ mix album - some tracks segueing or 'mixing' into the next one.

Incidentally, Hooky responded to a couple of people on Facebook about this release:

James (random fan responding to "Peter Hook's" post):
Quote:
Love this album, such a shame it didn’t do very well. IMHO it’s better than their first album, but hey!

Hooky:
Quote:
Not a case of it not doing well. More a case of it not getting a proper release. That’s why we’re doing this now.

Dane (random fan responding to "Peter Hook & The Light's" post

Will this be available through additional vendors? $25 for shipping is quite expensive.

Hooky:

Other record stores are stocking it yes. Just have a look around.

A minor annoyance I'd like to see corrected on a CD reissue of Music for Pleasure is the way the last bit of "Billy Bones" plays when you select "Happy Jack". I have the North American release but have been tempted to seek out other editions in the hope they don't suffer from the same indexing (if that's the correct term) error.

I might have to disagree on this. There's plenty of stuff to be covered, one example being the demos they offered on their website at the time, plus rare remixes like the Joey Negro East Coast Groove for Sweet Lips, the Bee Gees cover (I understand there are probably complicated legal issues regarding that one) etc.

I'll (half) retract, or clarify my last comment!

Of course, I would buy a double disc expanded version of MFP but, if the second disc is simply going to be b-sides and commonly available remixes, then there wouldn't be much point IMO.

I can see why they did it on the vinyl reissue, it's not exactly a format designed to "stuff" tracks with, whereas CD obviously has 80 minutes to play with.

Something that has the b-sides, some lesser known remixes and maybe a live track or two would be the perfect compliment to the main album (US running order, of course).

I'm thinking stuff like:

- The b-sides (excluding Tender GLR as it's so similar to the album version)
- Sweet Lips (Joey Negro East Coast Groove) Promo only
- Buzz Gum (PolyGram Canada Edit) Promo only
- Buzz Gum (F.C. Kahuna Mix)
- You Should Be Dancing
- The "Glass Box" Sedona/Happy Jack hybrid demo version
- A live track or two... Mcr Uni '97 or Glasto '98?

If the stars aligned, it could happen...
