This is baffling me at times, sorry.

Just seems that in 2005 they struggled to sell tickets for ONE gig at Brixton Academy and in 2006 at the Wembley Arena gig the back 1/3 of the hall was curtained off as apparently only 2/3 of tickets were sold. This was around the time of a recent new album and an NME "Godlike Genius" award pushing their profile right up . Now in 2012 they're selling out every gig without a sweat.

1998 : Reading (50,000) + Ally Pally (11,000)
2001 : Brixton x 3 (15,000)
2002 : Finsbury Park (30,000)
2005 : Hyde Park (40,000) + QEH (650) + Brixton (5,000)
2006 : Wembley (7,000ish)

2009 : Bad Lieu Heaven (1,100)
2010 : Bad Lieu Camden (1,300)

2011 : Troxy (2,000)
2012 : Brixton x 2 (10,000)

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and in the 2001-2006 era, they sold around 100K tickets in London area alone. The market was saturated with New Order Live then.

I always remember some music journalist back in the mid to late 80s saying something like "People haven't realised New Order are legends yet but sometime in the next century they will" I recall thinking at the time yep!Just odd sometimes how slow people are to catch up

Yeah they've been clever in choosing venues that will sell out quickly and so create a bit of a buzz, particularly in 2011 when they first came back e.g. they could have picked a bigger venue than The Troxy last December and played more than one gig in London but held back.

The absence of Hook has clearly had a positive impact. And that's not taking anything away from him as an iconic bass player. But they're enjoying themselves alot more now than when Hook was around and it looks like that mood swing has had a highly positive affect on their performance. People generally perform better when they're having fun and like the company they're keeping. That happy environment must have a lot to do with them playing a load more gigs now than any year since 1986, and that constant playing will have helped them to get the set down better and tighter. End result?...bucket loads of glowing reviews in the media about their gigs, which people read and then buy a ticket when NO come to a town near them. Self fulfilling innit?.

Perhaps Hook shouldn't feel so bitter about what NO have achieved without him. Because they wouldn't have done this with him.
