my arse it will be, it will be sumner solo effort under the new order banner at best.

Which would still be better than that fucking Light EP.

I thought the Burgess collaboration was the best thing any of the (recent) side projects did.

In fact, it was probably the only thing that sounded genuinely New Orderish, which is probably why I liked it so much.

Hardly surprising as the bassline is pretty much a direct lift from Fac33 Tongue but yeah a strong track and you could imagine Bernard singing the Burgess lyric. Definitely the best thing Freebass ever did... just a shame the album lacked the same spark and quietly died a death.

To be fair, the Bad Loot album contains some quality song-writing although I can see how the lack of variation and guitar-heavy sound may put some people off. "This Is Home" is this great merge of Doves and New Order though, really good. Running Out Of Luck could easily have been a New Order song, one of the geetarists attempts a Hooky style melody in the outro.

The Light EP... well without being unkind I'd rather just listen to the Joy Division originals and as for "Pictures In My Mind"; there are reasons why bands sometimes abandon demos and I think Joy Division's quality control was perfect the first time round. As I've said before if they choose to do original material I'll definitely check it out.

The Mod is right again.
Personally I've always been the first to rip the pooh out of everything they've done since Technique ('Lec excepted) but I like the BL album. In fact I may be in the minority but I consider it the most consistent Bernard effort for years - certainly pisses all over the wankathon pop of Republic and Raise the Pressure. Runaway is lovely, Poisonous Intent vaguely Crystally to me, and Twist of Fate trundles along merrily. Only Dynamo gets me hitting the jump button - it has B-side written all over it!
Frebass? Hated that EP and thought thanks for the 6-year wait: YDKTAM starts well but never gets anywhere, Milky Way has been compared to Spinal Tap, that Dark Starr rant is the kinda shite anyone could make up with sufficient fluid (alcoholic, not bodily), and Live... is more Revenge than Monaco. BUT I did like the album and yes that includes the singer - shame their activity was shorter than my first shag. And my last one.
As for this new album, it's gonna be fun discussing and theorising but let's not hold our breath eh?

This is the best news I've heard all week, that's for sure. I wasn't sure if NO would ever release any more new material, though I had them down for at least three more compilations.

Yes, it would be nice if they released those unfinished songs from WFTSC, though it's be a shame if Hooky wasn't involved in that.

One thing about NO is that they made great synth pop songs as well as great guitar rock songs, so it would like the new album to have some kind of balance, 50% rock, 50% dance. I loved most of the guitar songs on WFTSC but the dancey songs...not so much, namely, Draculas Castle and to, a lesser extent, I Told You So (altough I have to admit that I like Guilt Is A Useless Emotion). So, If they want to do a dance album they have to do better than that.

Who says they're unfinshed? Hooky was the first one i heard announcing it until he seemingly changed his mind.

I am I the only one not looking forward to this? WFTSC seemed like the a good end to an era (with a couple crap songs thrown in to show that another album probably isn't in their best interest). BL was weak, with a couple decent songs... TOT, don't want to start on... Don't get me wrong, I'll buy it, but doubt it will be one that will be played often....
I predict a side project sound with the NO label slapped on... not what I want out of NODead

I think it's just a reality that if a band/songwriter etc has produced something wonderful and critically acclaimed, it'll be hard and unrealistic to write something that matches that. There will always be fans thinking it's not good enough. Even the best songwriters cannot create masterpieces all the time. But I think the current lineup has the potential to write something decent. Of course, for better or worse, New Order fans like us, seem so hard to please.

New synth album - great, would like to see them do a track with Calvin Harris, he did an awesome job with Rihanna.

Calvin Harris?

Are you serious?

Tinchy Strider could do a rap about half way through. Its got 'Hit Single' written all over it...

I wish the new material would sound like 'Miracle Cure' or that song he did with Hot Chip.

That would be great Eimi, with a plus of innovation Smile

I know what you mean, but thats not really were I think the band is going. The side projects (minus the first Electronic and Monaco albums) never had the polish or desire for radio play. Seemed many of them were half cocked ideas, that had a good start, but never intended for public consumption. More of a "jam with friends I guess we could release."
NO had more thought in it. I think that had a lot to do with the friction between Barney and Hooky, as making both happy lead to great songs. No friction, no challenges to sophomoric ideas.... leading to songs that have a good seed of a thought, but no substantial staying power.
I just don't believe Barney and Hooky can make great music without each other... as much as they might hate each other now, they really need each other to make for any future substantial albums...

this new album, I fear, will only be a side project like BL with a NO label... kinda ruining a name... guess I like the idea of stopping while you are ahead (stop making albums, not touring).

Better not to release anything at all for 15 years, then release a good one. (New Dodgy album anyone?!), still needs must, the only question is why are they doing it and who for. If they enjoy each other's company and making new stuff surely New Order can go to some new place we haven't seen yet. At the risk of sounding like a broken MP3 most don't want more of the templated 'Hey now, where you going' type songs, i would prefer an entire instrumental album to that!
