Given a straight choice of a New Order with Peter Hook, or a New Order without Peter Hook, I know which one I'd go for.

However that isn't what's on offer at the moment, so people have to accept that New Order will be Hook-less going forward.

Is Tom a better bass player than Hooky? Susan Boyle is an infinitely better singer than Bernard Sumner. Any grade 2 piano student can play keyboards better than Gillian, but I don't think anyone would want them in the band. It's an empty statement saying Tom is better.

At the end of the day, Hooky's produced basslines I'll take to the grave with me - Ceremony, Transmission, Age of Consent, that Perfect Kiss outro, even something iconic as Blue Monday.

You can't take those away from him.

You did kind of strip my comment out of context a bit there, Al.

What I meant was that the previously mentioned perception of "Hooky bashing" is, in my opinion, a reflection of a common opinion among New Order fans who, like me, think Hooky's indiscretions and poorly judged comments in interviews about his former bandmates make him difficult to sympathise with. Would I prefer if Hooky was in the band still and it wasn't this messy? Absolutely - I doubt anyone here genuinely thinks otherwise. Tom is a capable replacement for a member who departed of his own volition; I think he does a damn good job. There just no need to invoke Susan Boyle into proceedings though, that was totally uncalled for!

Yep, I love Hooky's basslines as well, nobody is taking them away from him. But, at the end of the day, you don't have people running to your defence when you have shat the nest as comprehensively as Hooky has done in recent years with his comments.

In. My. Opinion.

The slagging on that thread was far less than it was earlier... Jack was receiving some very unnecessary slagging for sometime before this. Quite honestly, I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. And to some of the other comments, I would disagree that the majority of fans take FULL issue with the Light and what they are doing. Hook came off as a raging hypocrite when he dissed his former bandmates (the ones who are credited for the band's success as much as he is) for wanting to continue New Order without him after he left by his own decision, and after that he went along to perform full JD albums live without consorting the very same band members that were also instrumental for JD's success.

And after that he continued to bad-mouth them during interviews and they've restrained themselves from hitting back rather well. I don't blame Barney for firing back now at this point in time. I think they've had enough to tell Hooky to piss off. Personally I think Barney and the rest of NO should just stay quiet and do their thing, but everyone has a threshold especially when someone is publicly trying to ruin your reputation on a professional level.

As for Jack, there's a difference between standing up for your dad and standing up for your dad who acts like major unprofessional !#*@.

The original line up of New order haven't played together publicly since about 12.20am on 1st January 1999 : 13 years 10 months 25 days ago.
