because it was just in a so-bad-it's-brilliant romcom i was watching, and brought a little tear to my eye.

it's got such great bones, this song, i doubt anyone could do a bad version. even the corrs.

Jarvis Cocker- Wireless Nights, a series of four that he did for Radio 4 a while back. Brilliant, great to nod of to in bed at night. This one is the only one i could find on YouTube, his look at the world viewed from being up in the air at night on a flight. The other 3 he did included one where he followed Taxi drivers at night, people who only come out at night and another one also night related that i can't recall right now. They all have a nightime theme hence 'Wireless Nights'. downloaded them all some time back, as said they're great bedtime listening

It was as good as I had hoped, they played for just under an hour and a half including the encore, the vocalist also played keyboards through out the set during which they reproduced the sound of the records with just three musicians on stage and keeping any pre-recorded parts to a minimum, highlights for me were when they played tracks from their recent album which is the one I am familiar with.

The next gig upcoming for me to consider attending is Richard Hawley,I haven't decided on that one yet.

oh you MUST! don't think about it a moment longer. i saw him a few weeks ago and it was incredible - especially if you're impressed by impeccable live musicianship. swoony, croony wonderfulness. i'm actually in love with RH now, in quite a serious and sinister way. i do recommend having a hand to hold at the gig, though, as it's rather heart-bursting. (unless you're made of stone, in which case you'll be fine.)

i'd have loved to have seen beach house on this tour, but i snoozed and i loozed. fingers currently crossed for depeche mode in prague. (prohibition notwithstanding.)

I think you have sold me on R.H.Smile I wont be going on my own either, unlike the Beach House gig..
The idea of seeing Depeche Mode live next summer does seem very tempting. I would be thinking of one of the German dates, I haven't been to Germany for a few years..

The new song,Angel Of Love...

A real blast from the past:

The Passions - I'm In Love With A German Film Star

Three chords alone don't get much better than this.

Think Charlie Burchill,
Derek Forbes,
Mel Gaynor...
...and Gillian Gilbert..? Classy tune. Wink

DM were one of my first musical loves, but to be honest i went off them rather rapidly and definitely post-violator (still a favourite album) when they properly tipped into overblown industrial stadium rock (see also PSB/erasure and overblown broadway camp). dave sounds extremely growly these days, doesn't he?

there's a rumour that this will be their last tour - apparently the previous one nearly killed DG. (as my brother says "well, he's a frail old junkie now, isn't he?"...)

I was at Euston Station and saw them making this video, 1998. James Dean Bradfield was in that bar upstairs looking really bored with it all ha!

Always thought the Manics ripped off Joy Division with their song titles

I was thinking recently about how they did that album using old lyrics by Richie Edwards and knowing that there are Ian Curtis lyrics published which have never been set to music and I wonder did the notion ever occur to any of the surviving members of JD to write music for the words. But he'd never dare, would he?

hmmm... never thought of that. Those lyrics published in Touching From A Distance that were never set to music - some absolute diamonds and gems in there.
