I love the technical production with the Technique LP, and wonder if any of you nutters know how the final mixes and mastering went down ??

I remember reading they recorded bits of it in Ibiza, and lots of it in Bath -- and in the wiki it says Alan Meyerson was involved in mixing - which would seem to have an interesting story behind it -

I think it is one of their best-produced and best-mixed LPs, and realized I know very little about their process on this LP - very curious

thx

Alan Meyerson mixed quite a few NO related albums; Technique, One True Passion, Raise The Pressure, Music For Pleasure etc.

The '89 Real World demos cassette which is out there in torrent land is a good document of how the songs came to be.

There's a brilliant instrumental of Dream Attack where both Bernard and Hooky just noodle away for about 5 minutes:

You may already have it but if not then it's well worth checking out.

As for the technical aspect of the mixing, there's got to be an interview with the band somewhere on it.

Most of Technique was recorded at Peter Gabriel's place in Somerset as they got almost bugger all recorded in Ibiza, the lure of the clubs and bars of San Antonio proving too strong on many a night. I remember reading an interview after it was released and they said they got a couple of drum tracks down and that was about it. Technique is a truly fine album.

Interesting take on the album:

Round & Round is 'strictly filler' but Guilty Partner is 'the masterpiece'?!

That was a very interesting read,
especially Michael Johnson's comments crediting Bernard with being the main creative force in the band, something I guess we all knew anyway but here confirmed by an insider..

While Technique is not the best New Order album in my humble opinion, it's the one that made the difference and is a still a great album. However, it's interesting to note that Michael Johnson didn't think the sound had moved on much since Brotherhood. He has a point. Technique is essentially a much better version of what the previous album tried to achieve - a rock/dance hybrid. The mixing of the album made it a black dance album, though the majority of the tracks are guitar based. Alan Meyerson must take credit for that.

What is sad about Technique is that the follow up should of been the best thing the band ever did - instead we got Republic...
