Noticed that an upcoming episode of Stuart Maconie's mammoth documentary series on Radio 2 'The People's Songs' is to have an episode based around World In Motion. No date as yet when this will be broadcast though. World In Motion doc

I don't know which is more sick, your post or Mick thanking you for it.

I don't know which is more sick, your post or Mick thanking you for it. I don't know why people hate this song so much, I still love it especially the rap in the end. I guess I am one of the few ones who likes it. |

I guess I am one of the few ones who likes it. I didn't say I hate it. I just think you're sick. You recently posted this in the DC Dance Party thread: "rap is always going to be Crap in my mind."

World in Motion, Such a Good Thing, Sugarcane... all these songs have something in common. Too poppy, maybe so, but these are my favorite NO tunes.
I understand why World in Motion has such a hard time among British fans: it's an England song, so the Scots, Welsh and Irish feel left out. Or maybe it is a bitter reminder of the failure of the English team at the '90 Cup.

I love World in Motion!
I first heard WIM when I was..14. I heard it on the Best of New Order comp. I had no idea it was a World Cup song. I didn't even know what the World Cup was then.
I just liked it because it had a great, uplifting, Housey vibe, great poppy lead synth riff, good lyrics about having the courage to be yourself....
Now, the rap part I was kind of confused about...I was like "who is this dude and why is he rapping about Football?"
I was also confused about the patriotic "WE'RE SINGING FOR ENGLAND" part...I thought..."Wow, New Order are so patriotic, that's great. If I were from England, I'd feel pretty cool singing this in a bar or something."
A few years later, I found out that WIM was a World Cup song...which is how I found out what the World Cup is.
Anyways. I think it's a fun, catchy, anthemic tune. I like Steve's drumming on it.

Not often mentioned and maybe slightly unacknowledged what a great thunderous thwack sound they achieved with Steve's drumming on the song. Especially on the intro and outro.
