wrong forum section i know but watched a few clips of the light playing PCL. pretty impressed with the band, all the sounds have seemingly been sampled from the original tracks so all good.
found it amusing that they sampled the synth from cries and whispers and the loop isn't quite long enough. i tried to do the same ages ago and had exactly the same problem! sounds ok though.
only letdown, obviously, are the vocals. Hookster does put his heart into it even if it doesn't really work on most of the PCL tracks. A shame they couldn't have got Pottsy, would have been improved, i think.

anyway sorry about that, back to the thread right?.......

I really wish (hope) that Peter will actually record and put out new music...I'd really like to hear what The Light is able to do beyond playing the older albums...

That being said all the bickering is making me wish that Celebrity Death Match was still running on MTV...

Factually, most of what Bernard says that has previously been published by either party in interviews etc., seems correct. For the 'new' information I cannot say if it is true or not. I cannot imagine that Hooky will let this go without yet another interview by retort. he said, she said, etc.

Absolutely Brian, i really wish The Light would do something new. I never thought they'd actually ever cover any NO songs. So now that PCL has been completed it seems likely that The Light will have to learn the rest of the NO back catalogue (including b-sides). I can see Republic happening after all. Vicious Circle live anyone? No, you're alright...

Do you think they'll do Jetstream? I'd pay money to watch Hooky sing that. Not much though.

Seems to back up what we heard from various sources already. New Order are better off without Hooky, hopefully now Lost Sirens has been released they can draw a line under it and move on by getting back into the studio and releasing a new album.

Hooky can carry on murdering the JD/NO back catalogue live with Rowetta and carping from the sidelines.

You know that bit on Mock The Week (bbc topical comedy quiz show for you non-british/irish people) where Hugh Dennis imagines the conversation taking place say, amongst the Royal family, and he does their voices in time with the on screen footage?
Watching that, I started to wonder if Mr Dennis was doing the same thing for Barney.

Speaking of Michael Shamberg - sort of - in the interview. He appears to be very much alive and kicking. I noticed his name pop up in the credits of Tarantino's new Django Unchained movie (very good by the way, and I don't usually like Westerns). And looking at IMDb he seems to have more stuff in the pipeline. I can't help wondering if he needed NO's money though. I suspect he has a lot of wealthy Hollywood friends and possibly plenty of his own money. Yes i know I'm speculating...

Which is a shame.

New Order were always at their best when they were truculent and arsey.

Exactly. Much preferred it when Barney used to tell the audience to fuck off or offer someone at the front out for a fight ( Brum Tower Ballroom 86 lol) , not all this "come on everybody, clap along"

Well bernard is 57 and in those days you could say things like that without some unstable fan following him with a bass and a peter hook mask with murder in mind.

I really don't understand this new marketing scheme Hooky and Bernard have come up with but it seems to be working, mostly. Now if they could create some new material with their respective bands it might be successful.

It's not really a marketing scheme...just journalists and music sites/publications asking questions...and the members (or former members) answering them.

That's a different Michael Shamberg. I had thought it was the same Michael Shamberg ages ago. Confusing because they are both producers, but different guy.

Well in retrospect the last part of my post was probably asking for trouble whether it was or wasn't the same guy.
BUT as regards there being two different Mr Shambergs, let me ask you this:
If you look at the IMDb link in my post and scroll through all the films that Django Unchained's Mr Shamberg has been involved with, back in 1987 you see a film called Salvation!(have you said your prayers today). Sound familiar? Click on that film in IMDb and it tells you it was directed by Beth B. That's defo the film that NO contributed TBTHOG to. It says he was known as Michael H Shamberg for that one. Is this really not the same guy who was involved with NO? It seems quite a coincidence.

In fact if you also check this listing for him on Discogs, you can see the NO references, and also references to "one man show" and "run". Those last two are also listed on the IMDb listing for Django Unchained's Michael Shamberg.
So I'm pretty sure it is the same guy.
And to end on a better note than yesterday, well done to him, he seems to be doing alright.

Let it rest before it gets cynical...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Shamberg: "Not to be confused with the producer and director, Michael H. Shamberg, who has a long history of association with the Manchester band, New Order."

Well, it seem that the two M.Shambergs have been mixed up before..

IMDB's database (like quite a few databases) isn't always correct with regards to correct names/roles.

My Dad, for instance, who was a BBC Sound Recordist, is listed under 3 different variations of his name (as 3 "seperate" people). He's also (incorrectly) listed under yet another name variations (who isn't him) in one or two cases...

Cool

Now its all been cleared up, go on, what were you hinting at? That Michael Shamberg (not to be confused with the other Michael Shamberg) didnt really need New Orders money or that New Orders given reasons for reforming and performing were not kosher?

Wow.

So I saw Michael H. Shamberg backstage at the New Order Roseland Ballroom show here in NYC last fall.

I don't know exactly what his medical issues are...

But he is in a giant wheelchair, he has to breathe through a tube, and he seems to be unable to move any part of this body, including his head.

Medical costs in the USA are ASTRONOMICAL, especially here in New York.

So, perhaps you should refrain from speculating on whether someone you have never met needs help with medical expenses or not.

I've never talked to Mr. Shamberg myself, but I know a few people who have known and worked with him for years, and by all accounts he is a really nice fellow, and I am sure New Order were sincere in wanting to help him out.

As for the Spinner interview....

I wasn't there, but it makes sense to me.
