C'mon Hooky, I used to like you. He needs a manager or somebody to step in and stop these piss-and-moan interviews. They're not serving him at all. Ah, I think they got along most of the time quite well. With interviews like this our Hookster just wants to reassure himself that he is right and the rest of the band, the crew and the management is wrong – don’t forget: the others are making shitloads of money now with their tours, he just can tour 30-year old „albums“ to have anything unique to sell, I would be quite pissed and jealous if I was him. All of them are over 50, and all of them are doing it solely for the money, saying anything else is pathetic. Of course it’s a shame where it all has gone now, especially as IMO they both need and compliment each other: Hook is unable to write and sing decent tunes on his own, and Bernard would have never become as successful as he is as the groups‘ songwriter and singer if it wasn’t for Hooky‘s aggressive basslines that put songs like BLT, Crystal or Regret above the rest. It seems that each of them thinks HE actually is New Order, whether muscially or in attitude, unable to appreciate what the other(s) has/ve brought to the group. Bernard just seems to play the dirty laundry game much cleverer (also in getting Steve and Gillian on his side), so fair play to him.

Hooky needs a good melody writer more than Bernard needs a bassist.

(quote) Bernard just seems to play the dirty laundry game much cleverer (also in getting Steve and Gillian on his side), so fair play to him. Definately. But all the former NO roadcrew (pre Hooky leaving), management etc were with BL and now NO. Why? Edited by user 30 January 2013 04:34:54(UTC)

Road crew go wherever the work is, to read anything into that aspect is a bit silly really. We've had the current NO's lighting designer, sound technician and stage manager all working for us at Hooky gigs at some point in the past couple of years. |

C'mon Hooky, I used to like you. He needs a manager or somebody to step in and stop these piss-and-moan interviews. They're not serving him at all. i think hes past the point of no return. hes seen what the man can do. hes seen all the hate of a woman too. you can interpret many a new order song in a different way with the breakdown of the group after sirens era and the ensuring faall out of hooky and other band members. the bottom line for me is a clash of egos between barney and hooky. barneys quite intraverted and cunning. whereas hooky is larger than life and cunning. theres been an obvious power struggle in the band for years (maybe since it started after joy division). both seem to make some valid points in interviews, only to contradict themselves. I guess hookys beef is that he's just turning up at the studio to tag on a bassline to an already complete song. and thats hes not as involved in the writing process as he once was (but its just a guess). who knows if a more democratic new order would have served us better songs or not.

Hooky's had decent tunes as Monaco, etc, and Barney's had decent tunes as Electronic, Bloot, etc. All of which were surely written with co-collaborators though?

Not really a fan of the Cure, but fair enough. . I think Hooky's reading too much into things when he claims The Cure resented JD.

To state the obvious, which probably should be left unsaid. Ian Curtis killed himself. Robert Smith just acted suicidal then became a still quite living self parody with the makeup and The Cure brand. Very lame to argue who "won".

Another interesting read: http://www.mtvhive.com/2...rview-unknown-pleasures/Quote: Getting back to the Joy Division dildo.
[Laughs.] Of course.
Do you display it in your home? Is it out where guests can see it, as a conversation piece? “Oh, I couldn’t help but notice that penis on your mantel.”
Well, I used to use it on Bernard if he asked really nice. But only if he asked really nicely. I won’t be using it on him again.
That’s very sweet of you.
Maybe if he lets me back in the band, I’ll let him use it again.

Am a totally stupid massive NO fan, JD only a bit less. We've met too Wanderer @ Eindhoven 2011. Great gig too. Point is, it's all about money? Innit, surprisingly. So, sort it out in the High Courts. And, don't talk about.....Make it part of the agreement.

http://www.rollingstone....-with-new-order-20130131Q&A: Peter Hook on His New Joy Division Book and Feuding with New Order New Rolling stone Interview What I am protesting about – what I am still very unhappy – is the business arrangements that they left for the company that owns the New Order trademark. Them three have decided what I should be paid and I think the four of us should have decided what I should have been paid. Them three are happy with the arrangements of what I get paid and I'm not. I'm seeking a legal remedy to that, and that's where we're at the moment. They refuse to cooperate, they refuse to negotiate and that's it.Edited by user 31 January 2013 09:25:44(UTC)

Hey! I've been trying to log on and re-register ever since the forums changed and now I've done it! Woo-hoo! Anyway, I'd say the handle I used to post under, but no one cares....
I heaped a lot of the blame for New Order breaking up on him, and I still wish he'd let it go and stop trashing the others (and the others the same). But you got to give him credit for being able to step back and still praise Steve and Barney for their talent. There's still a lot to like about the big ol' lug.

Good point. Where's Pottsy??? I don't think Pottsy would work with Hooky again on a full time bassis, he's helped out on guitar once, but none of them seem to think he should be in the Light, they think it would be too much like Monaco 2, which is a shame, he's a great singer and writer. |
