Disclosure's album was always going to be a big release. I think they've done really well to get the second biggest selling album this week so far. Of course, this could also flip next week. Disclosure's sales may tail off next week due to the initial spike, and the reviews of Music Complete, plus any promotion, might help in second week sales. TV spots and a lot of airplay are needed. I'll open my windows and play Tutti Frutti really loud in half an hour to try and help. Sorry neighbours....

I think it will go in at #3, just behind The Chvrches at #2 & Disclosure at #1, which will be a fantastic result! To have a top 3 album in 2015 (& their highest album chart position since "Republic" got to #1 in '93) is great news, considering lots of other acts from the 80's who are still going now, often struggle to make the Top 20 or even Top 40!....
For example, Erasure's last album, "The Violet Flame" only got to #20 last year (2014), Human League's last album, "Credo" only reached #44 in 2011 & Holly Johnson's last album, "Europa" only reached #63 last year.
So, I'll be pleased if it can stay in the top 3 by the time the chart is revealed on Friday (2nd Oct), which also happens to be my birthday! Of course, it would be fantastic if it could go in at #1, but at the moment they are at #2, which is still good & #2 would be excellent too, but I wonder if by Friday, they'll be overtaken by The Chrvches, so that's why I think it'll be #3.
Maybe if there had been a 2-CD limited edition version of the album, it might have had a better chance of reaching #1? I couldn't afford the vinyl box-set & also don't have a turntable anymore, so I just got the regular CD. But, I would've paid a few quid more for a 2-CD edition - a digipak box with a bonus CD of remixes for example! Or a 2nd CD featuring the Extended Versions of all the tracks? Something like that around £13-ish would've been nice & I would've got that version for sure.
Anyway, even if the album goes in at #4 or #5, then I'll be happy it it can stay in the Top 5, to match the position WFTSC got to in 2005. Let's all forget that "Lost Sirens" only got to #22 in 2013 though!...

It would've needed to be 2 x bonus discs to fit all the extended mixes on - so expensive to manufacture!
Can't wait to hear the extended version of the whole album - is this the first time an act has released such a thing, track for track?

These reports means shit. When Weird Al nipped his first US number one, he was battling it out for 1 with Jason Mraz. But he killed it, outselling him 25k.

i'd be happy with a top 5 #2 would be nice though there isn't a chance it'll outsell disclosure and i also think chvches will overtake it by the end of the week with a bit of luck though future singles can push it back up the chart and it'll stay in for a good number of weeks because new order singles/albums seem to vanish into obscurity pretty quickly

UK mid-week sales of Music Complete are up on WFTSC and with the market down 40% from 10 years ago, that's an achievement.
A top 3 first week placing, higher than WFTSC or Get Ready, would be some vindication of the new line-up and the loyalty of the fans.

I'd have thought the reason for that would be midweek sales are now Friday to Monday and not Monday to Wednesday I'd hazard a guess that more physical albums are bought on a weekend

Maybe Disclosure will get number one but let's just see if they're still going in 35 or so years!
Actually, I may not still be going myself in 35 years but you get the point.

US Charts are released on Sunday -- Duran Duran came in at No. 10 recently. I would love to see them inside the Top 10, but think Top 20 is more realistic. Happy to see a Top 3 in the UK, heck a Top 5 is great.

Fair enough. Not fussed about chart positions really but nice it's charted higher that last few albums.Maybe a TV spot or two might have made the difference and got it to No 1 but what TV music shows are there apart from Jools Holland? Actually, no, they would have sounded shit and the album would have sold less. There yer go then, that's why they didn't perform live on any TV show.

Congrats to New Order hope they go number 1 next week, Music Complete is a good album.
The Disclosure and Chvrches are also good sounding albums , I had a chance to listen to them, Chvches is a great electronic synth album, again Congrats NO. |

Disclosure seems to be a mainstream band such as Beyoncé, Kanye, Taylor and Justin b or t. Why would a new order fan associate with juvenalia? |

Hate to break it to you optimists, but this is the highest the album is going to get. Judging by the past experiences in the charts for albums by acts like Depeche Mode (2013's Delta Machine) or Pet Shop Boys (2013's Electric) the album gets a good charting position in the first week primarily because of fan purchases, then spirals far out of the Top 10 in the coming weeks. It stays hardly more than 3-4 weeks in the Top 100 even.
Don't mistake this for me disliking the album, just stating the facts.

Don't mistake this for me disliking the album, just stating the facts. Yes, this is probably the highest position it will achieve but I'd fully expect it to remain in the Top 10 next week and maybe even stay for a third week. After that, I'd guess it will be Top 100 for a good few weeks more. I thinks its current high position is down to more than just the old fans rushing out and buying the album. Quite a few sales are inspired by the good press reviews and the discerning music fan has purchased the album on that basis. The exciting thing about this album is that a bunch of young music fans in their teens and early twenties are getting their first taste of New Order with this record and some will work their way back through all the old albums until they end up listening to Joy Division. That happened to me with Republic in 1993 and this album will do the same for others. Maybe the current singles and album charts are not that important any more but " New Order are No.2 in the charts" sure has a nice ring to it and it's something us old fogies take a little pride in. Many of us would never have believed this day was possible back in 2007 when Hooky announced his departure.

For New Order to both get to number one and stay there would have required compromises. I see no compromises for the sake of commercial success and fully expect this album - like every other one they have done - to disappear without a trace over the next few weeks as the world's favourite music whores hog the top spots for 99% of the available time this coming year.
However, the promotional campaign for this album has been top notch (except the delivery of the bloody music on release day) and perhaps has been responsible for the album at least getting into the top five. The vast majority of people who have bought this album are undoubtably New Order fans but some of them might have held fire for a while instead of pre-ordering, given disappointment over previous albums and the whole Hooky charade.

I don't think any New Order album has gone up in the chart or even maintained its position after the first week's entry has it? Would be very surprised if this one bucks the trend although i like the album. I think even Technique and Republic both only spent one week at No 1 after hitting that position on first week.

I'm interested to see how it will chart in the U.S. I think Republic was their highest charting album here.
