I can't believe it's 20 years since Out Of Control, and the album it was taken from. Anyway, I don't know how serious Mr Simons is about putting that thing on the forthcoming Surrender box set ("we used to just make them for fun"), but I hope he is. Bernard has spoken in the past about all the guitar parts that he wrote for that song, only to see them chopped up in the released version of OOC. It'd be nice to hear more of Bernard's "original" version of the song. Stack.au article

the sasha club mix is 11 minutes, and the sasha instrumental is 13 minutes. you can get them on vinyl, or the japanese cd-single.
i figure, this 20 minute version is probably like playing those 2 versions in a row, or similar.

In this interim all things NewOrder seem far away, and the wishful wistful thinking and hoping for more has begun to diminish ,but not the gratitude that our heroes shunned spandex, and big hair and high pitched whiney crap songs like so many of those kinds of bands wallow in still. Now our heroes are giving us ample time to explore the rest of the world of music . While slogging thru the old prog and esoterica and arcane with no real strong loving feeling for those artsy fartsy times, i found that an old favorite, the Residents had been very busy, 30 more albums worth busy, and much of their later work is amazing ,in both a weird way and in a sane way , and very very wonderful . And, NO has always had a great work ethic including making new songs that we like , and they tour often with awesome shows, and they dearly love us and they probably have a contract to give us a lot more love , but hopefully lots of songs too . So all is well, and for a few months i must focus upon a most interesting band, the Residents .And in a few months maybe all our dreams about NO will come true .

later -1 I think it's more likely to be their own version.

Seems like a missed opportunity to me, especially as The Chems are both NO fans. Fingers crossed we hear a bit more of Bernard's guitars in the long mix. The Chems announced details of the Surrender Box Set today, although it won't be released until October. Out Of Control - the long version is called: "Out Of Control (21 Minutes Of Madness Mix)". The title presumably inspired by Coldcut. Website link.

looks like they're leaving some of the other mixes of the song on there too. that's odd.

If people want to own one or two tracks, they will probably be "findable" on DL leak sites...

OOC is enough for a lifetime. Underworld's 8 Ball the same . Karl and Eno have some cool songs but the Chem Bros and Underworld best ofs were only ok

Video remastered and uploaded today (even though it's not a new YT upload page). Up to 4K in the settings if your computer can handle it. Rosario looks so young here.

New Avalanches remix of OOC on the way: Instagram*EDIT* The release date of the Box Set has been pushed back to 22nd of November. Whether that means we'll have to wait until then to hear the 21 Minutes of Madness version of OOC, I'm not sure. That track is listed under the "Secret Psychedelic Mixes". One of the other mixes under that banner - Hey Boy Hey Girl (The Secret Psychedelic Mix) was put on youtube today as part of the promotional push... Edited by user 01 October 2019 13:04:45(UTC)

The Sasha mix kicked butt and was only on vinyl originally. They were making better music outside of their regular bands at this point. The Primal Scream solo was cumpared to Unknown Pleasures. Edited by user 13 October 2019 02:33:57(UTC)

It's unclear at the moment whether the Avalanches remix will feature in the box set (or maybe it will get a stand alone 12" release?) Speaking of which, here's news about the Chems own 21 Minutes Of Madness mix:

Came to my attention I haven’t listened to Surrender in years. Or at least the whole album.Kind of remember thinking Dig Your Own Hole was a better album but will have to give both another spin.Think I remember Dig Your Own Hole as being more my favourite because it has the fantastic and incredible Private Psychedelic Reel on.
I do remember buying Surrender when it was released though and tracks Like Music:Response , Hey Boy Hey Girl and Out Of Control. Was listening to 6Music at work the other day and Hey Boy Hey Girl was playing and a work colleague in his 20s said to me what’s that shit you’re playing ? It’s awful! Sigh, the youth of today.
I remember really liking also from the album Asleep From Day.
Never was massively convinced by Out Of Control. For me,the one with Noel Gallagher, Let Forever Be was a better collaboration, sorry! Loved the video too.
Looking at the CD now, the guy from Mercury Rev sings on the final track? Don’t remember that at all. Will have to give the album a listen now.

I don't think there are any more Bernard-y bits in this than the original. Just more FX and dubby bits. In fact I think there's less of his guitars. Towards the end it seems Gillespie is easier to make out. Or maybe I'm just listening harder. Around 17 mins I wondered if Patrick Cowley's mix of I Feel Love may have been getting a nod. Anyway here it is:

I got the boxset last week and have not had a chance to listen to all of it yet, but I can't say I was that impressed with the 21 minute mix of OOC: unlike the Patrick Cowley remix of I Feel Love, this just seemed like an endurance test after 10 minutes. I can see why the master tapes of it have been sat on a shelf for the last 20 years.

The Box Set (audio) has leaked on the interwebs incidentally. Meanwhile something that didn't end up on the box set is out on Friday:
