Sounds even better with a bit more clarity - thank fuck the neighbours aren't in... Yeah i noticed Barney's vocals and one or two other sounds are a little clearer with this download. It’s been said most people can’t hear the difference in a standard mp3/m4a versus one with a high sample and bit rate, but the high res download of Plastic is 235 MB, 96kHz and 24 bit. The difference in this case is definitely notable. I’m still getting used to the song. When I first heard it, I thought it was a mess. The more I listen, the more I discover something new. For example, I just noticed that the 1:30 mark sounds like it’s about to go into PSB’s version of “Where the Streets Have No Name.” And with the lyrics, I can’t help but think it’s a dig at Peter Hook. The sardonic tone of all of the lyrics up until the end is quite interesting, then Chapman’s bass solo at 2:46 seems to say, “Look, we can sound the same with another bassist.” And, to me, how it’s not quite at the forefront of the music makes a subtle statement as well. Then, the last lines are just like a kick in the nuts with honesty. It’s just another example of the complexities of this band, both in music and personality.

I think I like Plastic. I have 2 problems with it though. The lyrics are daft (I mean, who is he singing about? Khloe Kardashian?), but we're kinda okay with it by now... but it's the ending that reminds me something off 'Twisted Tenderness', which I never cared about, very un-New Ordery. Someone pointed here that it also is reminiscent of Out of Control. I never understood why so many people liked the Chem Bros: to me they were repetitious and unimaginative.
The song that I'm anxiously waiting for is Singularity. I was listening to a live version over and over today and the structure, the lyrical melody all sounded fantastic. I hope the studio version is the same.

One reviewer called Plastic a "weapons grade Eurodisco dance track." I agree. Restless was a shot across the bow but Plastic is a direct hit. Never cared for PSB so I won't compare it to them but definitely a homage to Moroder and Summers. Nothing wrong with that. Glad I pre-ordered the CD and Deluxe vinyl. The more I hear, the more I realize that NO is not fookin' around this time. Cannae wait to hear all the mixes. Now can they start selling the music Complete flag??

Love the build up in the intro, when the wobbly bass kicks in and all, but it's droning on a bit in the middle and the lyrics are daft (even for a NO song). Restless has better flow, but this is a dance song so it wins the duel for me.
Anyone know where to get this legally if you're in the EU? Can't find it anywhere, I'm going mad being stuck with the mediocre quality youtube version.

To my ears there's not a big difference between the YouTube ClipGrab rip and the NewOrder store download.Yeah Bernard's vocals are a little clearer on the official download but the YouTube rip is pretty good i think. But maybe i'm going deaf. Really loving plastic, far better than the live versions on you tube, but that may be sound quality.
However, the song "dropped" on Tuesday and was available on itunes on Wednesday, yet despite preordering the album from the mute store the instant grat only came through friday. Surely there should be some advantage for pre ordering direct.
Im wondering when the download for full album will come through now. Hoping for midnight thursday/friday but if not may be listening to it on apple music before it comes through, which would be a shame. Anyone else staying up for it thursday?

I'm thinking about staying up til midnight on Thursday yes.I said earlier in this thread or maybe another one that i wonder if it may become available in iTunes at midnight long before the NewOrder store download is put up (in the morning?) but i haven't pre ordered in iTunes but i forgot but realise now that you mention it that it may be available to stream in iTunes from midnight.

It seems that the 'instant gratis' 96khz/24 bit version of Plastic is only offered if you specifically pre-order the HD Audio Download version from the NO store. I have pre-ordered the Deluxe Vinyl Box Set and the limited edition clear vinyl 2LP both of which say they include the HD Audio Download but I was sent e-mails only offering MP3 versions (?) no big deal though, I can wait another week. Did you also get the HD version of the Restless album version with your pre-order, Kutastha? I don't know if this has already been mentioned but the store is now offering the Restless remix bundle in HD Audio Download. When I pre-ordered last night I got instant downloads of both the Agoria and RAC mixes in 96khz/24 bit quality (nice!). The rest to follow in October.

Really enjoying Plastic although it's almost too slick and polished to be New Order. Richard X left his signature all over this one and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The Restless download came only as a 43MB 44.1k flac, but Plastic came with both a 73MB 44.1k wav and the 235 96k wav. Perhaps it's different because I ordered it from the US store? That would be pretty lame.

Though I haven't warmed to the lyrics (or vocal melody), I love the backing track. The breakdown (just shy of 5 minutes in) when that percolating synth bit comes in reminds me of the lovely break in Mr. Disco (but Kraftwerk, actually).

Plastic is my favorite song on Music Complete, and one of their best singles in a long time (as far as I am concerned it was a single, as I consider a single any track released from an album before it's release to promote the LP and get people to buy it...Plastic clearly worked in this regard).
I love the synth bass, the melodies, the production, sly, sarcastic, bitchy lyrics (clearly taking the piss out of Hooky) and Bernard's unusual vocal, which is sort of crooning and sweet..really underscores the meaning of the lyrics in a nice way.
