Became a fan of her when she was in Crimson Petal And The White dreadful actress. wooden as fuck. although i doubt it's the talent you're admiring. i'm afraid conversations revolving around the "hotness" of actors bore me to tears. it's so reductive. (unless they're aragorn of arathorn.) get a poster of her for your teenage bedroom wall and let's leave it at that. Edited by user 03 January 2013 11:40:11(UTC)

I wonder will "The Sky At Night" be back on TV this year, it was I think being presented by Chris Lintott anyway so maybe it will, I used to really enjoy that when I was going through my astronomy phase...

i love patrick moore. PROOF, if proof were needed, that my affection is not afforded on a looks-alone basis. i tell you what, prof brian cox has really helped science be sexy again, which is no bad thing. p.s. i'm drunk. Edited by user 05 January 2013 16:17:23(UTC)

Quick question - why do i keep seeing lose spelt as loose these days? Have i missed a memo or something? I mean, you expect it from thick bastards commenting on YouTube but i seem to have started seeing it from journalists now. WTF is going on? Edited by user 11 January 2013 12:25:07(UTC)

Chris Lintott or Brian Cox, she went for the former... So there you go... They were discussing meteorites and I was reminded of the fact that I actually have one at home.. I found it when I was in my early teens, maybe I should have it authenticated but the slim chance that the experts would say "that's no meteorite" has always put me off the idea...

I haven't noticed that one myself but something odd spelling wise happened to me today, I was given a CV to hand in at work on behalf of this guy who I actually don't know but who is currently out of work and as the envelope it was in was unsealed I had to have a look at it.. It was full of really stupid childish spelling mistakes.. Do people think spelling doesn't matter anymore?

'definately' is also a regular offender. these things do not bother me. what does bother me is invite (verb) being used instead of invitation (noun). i used to complain. but mine was a small plaintive voice in the darkness. the battle has been lost.

I found it in a field on a farm that had sort of shallow trenches dug in in it for drainage purposes which caused lots of small rocks to be unearthed, my job was to clear them up, this small odd burned looking rock caught my eye and so I brought it home with me, it's pretty small and would fit in the palm of your hand. I find it annoying when people talk about "plating up" food... I blame those TV chefs... Edited by user 11 January 2013 16:00:40(UTC)

I mean, you expect it from thick bastards commenting on YouTube but i seem to have started seeing it from journalists now. WTF is going on? No one cares about spelling anymore - they have Spellcheck on their emails and Word documents, or they deliberately misspell in texts. I'm guilty of this myself. In fact i was told off recently for typing loose in a text message. Silly of me, as the idea is to shorten words in text messages rather than elongate them. Nonetheless my defence was something like this: Pronounce these words: Bose Hose Nose Pose Rose Now pronounce Lose. Pronounce these words: Choose Snooze Zoos Boos Igloos Poos (probably appropriate for this post) So going by the above examples lose should really be spelt loose. People may argue that loose is of course a completely different word, with another meaning. But sometimes a word can be spelt the same way and have two different meanings. Eg: Wind (moving air) or wind (to wind your watch). So why not have the 'loose' spelling covering lose and loose? (Rhetorical question; please don't answer with: "because that's not what's in the dictionary"). There's sort of a flaw in my 'wind' example but I'm not going to point it out... Anyway that's my defence for misspelling lose. I'm not sure if this post counts as anally retentive but um, I feel a bit weird now...

A friend recently gained a qualification in English teaching as he would like to get work teaching English abroad when he's travelling. However his English spelling, grammar and punctuation ( my punctuation and grammar aren't always the greatest but i'd say they're better than his) whenever he emails me and others is awful. I don't know if he just can't be bothered when it comes to writing English or what.

I see your point. but it's NOT. *chucks board rubber at your head* english is a notoriously confusing, difficult, anarchic language. good, that's what i say.
